Why do my boys like to "smell" my hair. they are still funny with hands going near them but i gently put my head in their cage so they got used to me. they really wanted to be around me and wanted to reach up to my hair. is this a way they get to know me? they didn't do anything but "smell" it. They came right up close and went under my chin lol

Please let me know if this is good or bad thing to do. I just want to them to get to know me at their pace.

Sounds normal. They’re likely curious about your hair and your smell.

Hi!

They are just saying hellow and getting to know you by smelling your own fur coat. The sense of smell is a much stronger sense in guinea pigs and it is more vital for identification than our stronger human sense, sight.

thats good. they are always wanting to know where i am. cant believe ive had them 2 weeks tomorrow. they have come on so much. Ozzy my rabbit is used to them now.

Do make sure you don’t let the rabbit near them. Rabbits and piggies should ideally be kept in separate rooms (and certainly they should never be allowed physical contact) due to the diseases rabbits carry harmlessly to them but which can be fatal to piggies.

I have three rabbits and two piggies and stopping the risk of cross contamination is at the forefront of my mind. My lot live in sheds in my garden so it’s a bit easier but even with lawn time, they are never in the same part of of the garden, the piggies run is never put where the rabbits have been. Piggies always handled/fed/cleaned out first Hands always washed, clothes changed after cleaning the rabbits.
