Today was branch day in our house.
I love branch day.
Branch day is when we get a new branch in our cage.

Today it was pear, and that is my absolute favorite (of all the branches I have tried so far anyway).
Even Oreo came out to explore the new branch, but she didn't really understand how it works.

When we get a new branch we all share and eat it together.
Oreo just wanted to try and drag it up to the loft in the C&C.

Clearly she hasn't realised just how little she is, and how it is much less work to leave the branch where it is and stuff your face as fast as you can with the yummy leaves.
I would have passed this information on to her, but my mouth was full.
I love branch day.

Sadly no - the only trees we have in the garden are unsuitable for guinea pigs which is a shame.
I forage them from the local woods (my first choice) with the very occasional apple branch from a friend's garden (so I can be sure it hasn't been sprayed or treated in any way).

Are their any other branches that you- or should I say Eddi- would recommend? I'm looking to get some for my pigs but I don't really know of any fruit trees around, so I'm hoping there are more common trees that are safe for pigs to munch on, however I never really know what sites I can trust. Do you know if silver birch is safe? We have a ton of those.

I feed pear, apple (very sparingly - apparently it's high in calcium), hazel, beech and willow.
I have heard birch is also ok, but I don't know of any trees nearby, so mine haven't had that yet.

I use this list as my basis, and then before I feed any branches I tend to also do a quick google on the specific species.

I only collect branches that I can be sure have not been treated, so this is why fruit trees are often tricky, because if they are cultivated then chances are high they will be sprayed. I was pretty thrilled (as was Eddi :))) when I discovered a pear tree growing in the wild.

After I collect a branch I wash it off at home, and leave it in the garden for an hour or so to give any creepy crawlies a chance to depart.

My lot really do love their branches - they frisk in and out of them, they run through them, they popcorn in them, and they within a couple of days they totally decimate them!
Of all the 'toys' they I give them I think branches are probably their absolute favorite

Thanks for the help! There's an apple tree on my garden but I was reluctant to give them any for fear of it being too high in calcium for them, as id heard that elsewhere too. Thanks for the help! I never thought about insects being on the branches, so I'll bare that in mind if I manage to get my hands on anything. I find my pigs love anything that they can eat, just like their mum lol

Awwwwwww Branch treat day is the best it entices all the little :love: beauties out!
