i was talking to another mum at the school about the piggys and she said she used to give her (she doesnt have any anymore) a slice of bread and that they loved it

surely piggy's dont/cant eat bread,, any one else ever heard of this

I have heard about giving bread to ill piggies I think ?

Not sure about well ones tho.

Yeah I've been told by Vets to give mine bread soaked in diluted evaporated milk when they've been poorly! I know it sounds a bit bizarre but they have wheat in their pellets so why not?! Never tried a healthy pig on bread but may give it a go. I had a piggy years ago who loved cream crackers and digestive biscuits! 98)

If they are ill and need some weight, bread in evaporated milk is recommended by some, but I wouldnt consider giving my piggies bread unless that was the situation :)

I had a piggy that loved Chappatis from the indian takeawy! It got a tad embarassing though when I used to go in and plae an order and someone would remind me don't forget the guinea pig, I often wonder of they had visions of a guinea pig knocking back a madras and a pint of larger!

Mine have a very small piece of dried wholemeal bread every morning for a treat. They love it and being dried it is good for thier teeth.

I wouldn't give mine bread..I dunno, it just doesn't seem right to me ;D They're happy with their veggies so hey O0

I have been giving dried bread to fatten poorly piggies or rabbits up, cant say I noticed any preference towards wholemeal or white ;)

Never tried bread with mine. The baby boys (9 months now but they'll always be my babies) have a Rice Krispie from hubby each morning.

just took this from the site I use as a food guide

"Do NOT feed bread or cereal or other grains. Cavies should not have any processed 'human' food. Grains are not well digested by cavies. Grain hays can be used as occasional treats but not for everyday use."

Wholemeal or granary bread is great for a treat, maybe once or twice a week.If I have a piggy with dental problems they appreciate some wholemeal bread softened with water. If I am syringe feeeding ground up dry mix,I sometimes make a thick paste and put this on a bit of wholemeal bread.
Never offer white bread because the chemicals in the flour whitener are bad for them.

I occasionaly cut thick slices of bread then cut it into cubes and put it in the oven to go hard,I find the piggies love them as a treat

i was thinking the other day about whether they could have bread thanks for clearing it up, i dont think i will give them any though :-\

I've heard that a bit of stale bread can do wonders for a bunny with diorrehea(sp), but I havent heard of giving it to piggies

Think I have read that somewhere before too. Can you let us have the name of the site you use for food guide please? ;)

I gave it to Blosson and Treacle when they where pregnant soaked in milk both loved it and so did the babies when they were born.
In one of my Peter Gurney it was recommened for young nursing mums and babies. I gave them brown bread :)
