I have 2 12 week old babies Elsa and Anna. At the weekend Anna started coughing, sneezing and making funny noises when she breathed! I kept a close eye on her as there was no other symptoms of illness! A bit later on she did a really loud cough and out popped a piece of hay! She was fine after that. It's now Tuesday and she has started making the funny noise again and sneezing etc! Is this something I need to worry about? Is she going to keep on getting bits of hay stuck? These are my first GP so I'm quite new to them and every different noise and squeak makes me freak! Tx

Please have Anna checked for URI, upper respiratory tract infection. it is quite common in new guinea pigs, especially those from a shop.

The Cat&Rabbit Care clinic in Duston is run by a couple of very piggy savvy vets and the best place in the whole area. I use them myself for any specialist issues, even though they are a way away. You can also find them on our recommended vets locator on the top bar.

mine sometimes wheeze for up to 30mins then cough and are fine again, they will also sneeze a bit to. the vet said it was hay fever or dust allergys. my advice is as long as they cough then stop making the noises they are fine. though I'm not a vet are anything but had guinea pigs for many years. hope this helps and saves you a trip to the vets.
