Hi so my boy guinea pig who is 6 years old has started to breathe noticeably. I haven’t got a vet that I trust as they don’t know a lot about guinea pigs.

I’ve had guinea pigs in the past with upper respiratory issues and the symptoms are different to what he has. He has lost about 40g since February, however still happily eating and drinking as much as he would normally. I’m not sure it is just old age or a reaction to the heat as I know they can struggle with it.

does anyone have any advice? I have got some medication baytril, nebuliser and painkillers that I could give him but I’m not sure what to try.

I’m sorry to hear this

You will need to upload video to YouTube and then post a link to it here.

We can only advise that you see a vet for any breathing issue. Noticeable breathing can be due a respiratory infection; to fluid in the chest cavity or a heart issue so your piggy really does need to see a vet.
We cannot advise you to give any medications without a vets say so.

I have added our vet link which will hopefully help you find a vet you can get to
