For one of my assignments I'm going to state some facts about some of the main guinea pig breeds/colours. So are there any breed or colour specific problems that the guinea pig may have (e.g, like hip dysplasia in some German Shepherd dogs)? I remember reading that Satins can have osteodystrophy, and we all know about roans and dalmatians etc.

If any of you can add to this, or point me towards a website that may help me out, I would be so grateful!

Swiss pigs have dryer skin than other breeds, they are prone to dandruff and should not be bathed too often if at all.

That's the only one I know of I am afraid!

I've only heard the ones you mentioned already- skeletal issues with satins and the lethal gene when roans and dalmations interbreed. I'm interested to see if anything else comes up, though, just for future reference! I suspect that none of mine are purebred anything, though one was obviously an aby, one is obviously short-haired, and the other obviously has some sheltie in her blood although she's clearly a cross and not a pure sheltie. I kind of like the 'mutts'- looks of variety!
