Roly has just done a bright red wee. I guess this means UTI or bladder stones? Poor little chap seems fine in himself, bouncing round, will get him to the vets with Marble tomorrow.

Oh Katie it never rains but it pours. Keep us posted! :smitten:

I know, poor little thing.

He seems fine in himself at the moment and isn't squeaking - do I need to rush him to the vets now or can he go with Marble tomorrow? I am not v.well and don't want to drive, if its something that needs urgent treatment I can ask OH to take us when he gets home from work..

Good luck, best to get him sorted out sooner rather than later, you'll only worry yourself sick.

Hope you are feeling better soon. x

Thanks Louise, TBH I was preparing to get out of my skanky trackie bottoms, get in the car and take him myself, but OH has said he will come home at 4.
Hope he is OK - do pigs usually make a full recovery from UTIs/bladder stones?

I shouldn't see why not with the right treatment. Infections are quite common with the little dears only having short legs. Is he squeaking when peeing? If it is a UTI he'll be treated with antibiotic.

If it's stones he'll need an X-ray but hopefully it is a UTI which can be sorted out quickly! Fingers crossed. How old is Roly?

Ah right, bless him. I do hope he is ok poor little man. :smitten:

In Smudge's case I think it is a build up of sludge in the bladder - she doesn't seem to be able to break down the calcium in some foods properly so the crystals don't get flushed out of her system. They then sit in the bladder and cause irritation to the bladder lining causing it to bleed. When she's well her wee is quite chalky and gritty and she's a little moo and doesn't drink anywhere near enough fluid!

If you can get some extra fluid into your little guy i.e. syringe some water or give him some extra wet veggies it all helps to keep things moving through. I have tried boiling up some pearl barley in the past and offering the liquid via syringe - it's very slimy and coats the lining of the bladder, you can also mash up the cooked pearl barley and give them this as well, although my lot have never been too keen on this.

Smudge is currently on Septrin to try to clear her infection (she had one last year) and at the moment doesn't seem to be in any pain and she's still eating well. I do hope Roly isn't too uncomfortable, give him a hug from us and good luck at the vets.

Aw thanks for the advice. He has always been a good drinker - drinks a lot actually, but the only veg he eats is carrot and celery, won't touch anything else and gets freaked out by tomatoes!

Thanks all,
The vet gave him a good feel all over and said his bladder felt normal, no lumps or blockages, so he has given him antibiotics, hopefully should clear it. Poor Roly.

I'm glad it doesn't sound too serious Katie, lets hope the abs do the trick. Give Roly a get well snuggle from me.

has rolly come out of his house yet? is he feeling better? or is he still mad at you for taking him to see the big bad vet? :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: sending you both hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and come on roly my girls send you some :-* :-* :-*
