Brillo Booked For His Op.

All the best for his recovery. Make sure that he also gets fibre to help steady the guts after all the chemicals from the op. I hope that he'll pick up soon!

Thank you for that link Helen!

I've given him some of the puree, but he isnt too keen. He has had one tiny nibble of the really squishy centre of cucumber. He's extremely interested in the dandelion but just can't bring himself to take it from me.

I was thinking of mushing down his pellets and giving him them via syringe?
When I go back to the vet tomorrow they are giving me some of that high fibre mush (I'm not sure of its name!) if he still hasnt taken much food.

Did he come home on any pain relief?

Critical care is what you are thinking of. Does he usually have pellets? If so you can mush them in hot water and leave to cool and try him with that?

Yes he came with some I believe. He came home with Baytril and Inflacam. Yes he normally really enjoys his pellets. He has the burgess ones. I think I'm going to do that and try it in a second.

He sounds a little crackly. Not anything really obvious but when hes close to me I can hear it. He has had antibiotics yesterday and today and has come home with them.

I'm just so worried at the moment. Trying to just keep my head in the right place and do everything right that I can for him. @helen105281

You are doing everything you can for him, just keep on it and get in touch with the vets first thing if you are still worried or he's not picked up xx

Was his dental done under anaesthetic? It can sometimes make their breathing crackly and some vets give diuretic as standard after an op. If he is the same tomorrow mention it to your vet.

Not heard of Inflacam before, so learnt something new today.

Yes it was Helen. Okay thank you!

Attempting to syringe feed the mushy pellets when they've cooled down. Just feel awful prodding at his mouth when hes had so much done!

Just take it slowly, and if you can time it so it is about half hour after his pain relief it would help.

Thank you!

He had pain relief early afternoon but isn't due any more until tomorrow. I'm going to give it to him when I wake up in the morning, in the hope that he could try and eat a fair bit, to prepare him better for the day.

Mushed pellets went down well. 50% gone down/ 50% under his chin.
Very interested in the grated carrot and pepper. Just still very hesitant!

Bless him, he's gorgeous. That's good he has eaten something.

Great to hear that he's trying to eat, it's so important to keep the guts going even if it's a bit slow. Grated carrot is always a top treat!

Given him his meds about an hour ago. Not eaten anything over night. Tried again with the mushed pellets about half an hour ago. Hes taken some but not much. I've left him in his hidey for a bit now, with grated carrot, pepper, apple and cucumber just outside of it. He sniffs it, but just doesn't take it.

He's back to the vet later on today. I just really want him to be eating.

Come on little Brillo man, eat something! I'd definitely keep up with the syringe feeds, taking a little is better than nothing. Have you tried a little bit of coriander or parsley? Its smelly and the first thing that Mario ate when he got home. After that he went on so come celery, cucumber and when finished he felt up to his pellets and hay.

I'm keeping with the syringe feeds every 2 hours. He looks such a mess with a lot of it dribbling down his chin!

He sniffed parsley, but won't eat it. That's his favourite as well... I'm hoping as the day goes on he might be more up for it. He's just sat in his hidey . I don't know what else I can do for him.

Is he warm enough? I know my vets had Mario on a heat pad for a long time as they said it really aids their recovery time. Perhaps popping him on a heat pad or a water bottle with some warm water, wrapped in a blanket. It may make him feel better? I'm no expert but it wont harm him until you see the vets later. Could you move your vet appointment forward?

Yes it's really warm in my house at the moment and he's got hay he's snuggling in.

Earliest I can get him to the vet is 2:30. I'm pretty sure he will be okay till then. I'm just going to keep syringe feeding him until we get there.

OK good idea. Got my fingers crossed and sending healing vibes Brillo's way xx

He's been given some fluids and something to stimulate his gut. They have also given me some recovery plus to feed him tonight. Fingers crossed things start to pick up.

Back with him at the vet again tomorrow. They said if I struggle to get him to take any syringe or food tonight then I can take him there tomorrow, where they'll try all day with him.

I'm determined to do it myself though, so fingers crossed.

Aww poor little man. I hope that helps pick him up, but it's also nice to know you have the backup support from the vets if its needed :)

Really hope he takes to the food. Were you happy with everything in the guide? do you need to ask anything about technique or anything?

I'm hoping so too!

The guide was really helpful thank you!

I do manage to get the syringe behind it front teeth, but a lot of the mixture dribbles back out the front and down his chin. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

He's a lot more smelly than usual too.

We have had our first slight poop though! By no means a great deal. It was tiny and a little sloppy, but I'm hoping that's a good sign.

It is good that he has poo'd.

How much are you trying to get in at a time? 1ml or less?
