We have been on holiday for the past week, and as usual gave them to one of our local pet shops to take care of them for that period. It has now been 10 days since I saw them and I cannot wait to bring them back home! Though it was nice to be able to unpack and tidy after coming back from the hols without having to feed piggies and clean the cage, I did have that constant nagging worry if they were alright. Of course, they have our numbers and all that in case something happens but still! And my dad kept making comments about what if they got sold in the petshop! Arrrrrg! :...
So glad to have them back today! (sorry for the random thread)
aww hope you had a nice holiday and i'm sure your piggies love seeing you again. They sound ok. When i went on holiday this year, i was abit worried about leavinng them with a kennels and my worst fears came, one of my piggies died there a week into our holiday i was so upset, i tried to enjoy the rest of my holiday but also i couldn't wait to get home to my other piggie but dreaded that i'll have to also collect my dead pig too and bury her in our garden.
I just don't trust kennels because the ones i have taken to kennels end up dying, I dunno who i'm going to hand them over too when i go/if i go on holiday next year. I've never heard of giving them to a pet shop to look after for a while but i would be worried if they got sold lol *sigh* But glad yours are ok
I like giving them to the petshop because even though we have family and friends who would be willing to take care of them during our holiday, I feel that the petshop staff are actually more aware of what piggies needs are than my friends who would mean well but not know much about them or how to handle them.
About selling - I did make sure there was a "not for sale" sign on the cage before I left ;-) Also only 2 people run the shop, so it is not like a huge shop like pets at home, where you could have a scenario of "sign has fallen off, other staff come on shift and do not know that there used to be a sign, and sell piggy". But still - silly comments like my dads didnt help!
I have now picked them up, and they are all fine and healthy looking xx>>> , they have all lost a little bit of weight but I found they tend to do that when they have been put into a new environment.
Cookie I feel very sorry for you, that must have been a horrible experience
I left my bunnies with a kennels, and when they came back they'd lost weight (probably due to change in environment) but were also quite aggressive and difficult to handle. It took a long time to calm them down, so don't know what happened there.
