This article was in the Bristol Evening Post last night. I have the newpaper delivered but didn't get a chance to read it.

Today several of my colleagues at work, who know about my love for piggies, asked if I had read it.
Well I logged onto the newpaper's website to have a nose. Good story but I have to say that I was gutted by some readers comments that had been made which are listed below the article. The comments made by some people totally over-shadowed the great work done by Fi and Matt.

I am just "putting pen" to paper, so to speak, with my reply. Anyone can reply and I am sure that some will ultimately get printed in the newspaper in a few days. So if anyone of here wants to place a comment, feel free.

What do folks think of some of the ridicious readers comments?
 
PS. If you are reading the comments ... start from the bottom up and the first comment made is listed at the bottom.

these people i think half the time write these things to get people fired up. i wouldnt give him the satisfaction to see that it had got to me, thats what he wants. Just do a long comment on how you feel towards the advert and praise the people.

Putting stuff to tell them not to be pathetic sometimes just aggravates the problem and will make them post more.
 
Everyone should of ignored that guy's replies - he got the kinda response he was looking for.....which was winding everyone up. He'll just be loving it.

Great article on the rescue though.
 
I thought it was a fab article promoting rescue.
No, I will only reply praising Fi and Matt ... little stupid people like Steven from North Bristol aren't worth the effort of putting fingers onto the keyboard.

I did have a thought that Fi and Matt might find that they will be even busier with rescue piggies after the article as the road and area that they lived in was published. Bless them! :)
 
I would love to take Steve to my work place with me and gladly get my boss (vet) to castrate him! Now that would be fun!
 
Steves a funny guy isn't he? rolleyes Hardly original, not worth even mentioning really! :) The work Fi does is amazing. I always say if an individual can give some time to animals they are worth their weight in gold!
 
The comments on this have really Pis*&d me off, I know they say things like this to upset us, but it makes me so angry when they say things like - i will pop along to the rescue and pick some up for Sunday roast!

Hi, just about to catch up on what has happened on the Bristol Evening Post website today. There was nothing in the newspaper today after the article. Sometimes there is a soapbox item following on from a news article, but nothing.

I was very wound up when I read some the comments posted by people, then I thought that I should cool off a little! I had composed a letter.

Sad isn't it, even people basically take the mickey out of folks doing something nice and kind!
 
I can see that Steven from North Bristol's response seems to have been deleted and also a couple of others.

This is my response on to the website ....


Firstly, may I say “well done†to Fi and Matt for running this rescue. It is expensive and time consuming to run a rescue.

I have been keeping guinea pigs for nearly 18 years and I am now becoming involved in the rescue and welfare of guinea pigs. A couple of weeks ago I travelled 200 miles to collect two guinea pigs, one of whom had been neglected badly prior to being handed into the RSPCA. I am not embarrassed to say that it felt very satisfying to be giving them a new home and a fresh start in life. Each and every guinea pig is an individual and deserves a loving and caring home.

Guinea pigs are endearing little characters. Excellent for older children and adults, but like all animals, can become unwanted or neglected pets. A guinea pig can live for up to seven years, so owning one should not be taken lightly. All too often a cute pig is seen in a pet superstore and purchased as an impulse buy. The novelty of owning them can wear off and that is where kind people like Fi and Matt come in and pick up the pieces.

However, may I say how saddened I was to read some of the responses to the rescue article? I don’t think they were very constructive. Would the same comments have been written if it was regarding a dog, cat or horse rescue? I doubt it! I don’t think anyone would write about roasting these in their own juices for dinner. I won’t even mention another comment that was written.

Fi and Matt should be applauded for being caring and responsible people, not mocked. All too often we read about unkind things that are done to animals and humans. Let’s not make jest of a worthy cause … please!
 
I've just noticed that those bad comments have been deleted now.
 
thats good news, i reported them! wonder if i got a reply from the paper! will check now!
 
I would just like to say a big thank you to you all for your kind comments. Matt and i do appreciate them. We only got back from Portsmouth this evening and have 11 answer phone messages mainly from the media. A knid neighbour gave us a copy of the paper which we are going to laminate.

We are pleased with the article despite quite a few misquotes.
