Brita filter

My guinea is having major bladder issues, so I bought a Brita filter to cut down on calcium in our medium water area, but when I went to change the Guineas water bowl I noticed black powdery particles at the bottom of the bowl. I went to look at the reviews of this product and many people said that they noticed the same. Now I’m stressing as I need to filter the water but don’t know which product to buy. I can only assume the powder is carbon from the filter.
Do I stop using it now and go back to tap water?
 
Try a different pack of filters maybe, might be worth emailing brita. I don't get this issue with the wilko one
 
Just done some research on youre issue, and it said it can happen on the first 2 fills of the filter, keep running water through, until it stops. Apparently its normal.

It does say, do not consume with the black specs in water
 
This is perfectly normal and will not harm your guinea pigs at all.
When you use a new filter just throw away the first couple of jugs of freshly filtered water and after that it should run clear.
To be honest I ususally use the first couple of jugs of filterterd water to drink myself, as a few small charcoal particles isn't going to do any harm - it's more aesthetic than an actual health issue.

Did you follow the guide it gives you when inserting a new filter? I use the wilko one and have never had this problem, but you are suppose to leave it in a bowl of water for 5-10 mins to get rid of any bubbles (I think), run the filter under the sink for another 1 minute and the first two jugs I pour down the sink as it cleans the filter where it has not been used. It may be the same for Brita, but I have not used that brand. If it is a continuous problem then definitely email the company or speak to someone on live chat and they can sometimes send a new one out for free or give you a voucher off your next purchase. If it is brand new then contact the place you got it from to get your money back or ask for a replacement
