do piggies nails get more brittle as they get older?

chesneys seem to have some really tough nails that take effort to cut, then others seem quite brittle and will crumble almost whilst being cut.

he is just over 4 years old approx.

his nails are also quite yellow and some grow sideways almost. he seems fine though, not in any discomfort. i trim the nails regularly, usually take the tips off the nails every 4 weeks or so.

just wondered if this is normal?

my two older girls' have become a big tougher and do look more brittle and dry. theirs also are a bit yellow, and the outer ones do curl round a bit, that seems to be quite normal, as long as they're normal length. it sounds like theirs are very similar, and mine seem to have no problems with them. x

thanks for your reply. i did think it might just be normal but couldn't remember if i read it could be caused from missing some nutrient maybe in their diet.. but i don't think this is the case with ches as i took advice on their diet from my vet and i think they have a good selection and a balanced diet.

his nails are very discoloured though. but i noticed maisie's have got yellower as she has got a bit older. :)

both of mine are now 4 1/2 and i think they've got a bit discoloured as they've got older too. it doesn't seem like anything to worry about with me, mine are the same and have a pretty good balanced diet, so sounds pretty normal to me x
