T-Rex
Adult Guinea Pig
Oh my darling Ginny. I’m so sad to be writing this.
You came into our lives following a desperate search for a friend for Jasper when he was feeling lonely when his brother Flash passed away. So desperate that I contacted a breeder who took in rescues too who was close by. When I got there she plonked you in my arms and told me you weren’t a rescue, but one of hers who was struggling in the big herd and being bullied. You had bald patches all over you, and were so bony and thin. She told me you were ‘around one’ but I’ve always wondered if this was a lie to get me to take you as I always wondered if you were an ex breeder she was ‘done with’.
Despite my concerns, as I held you in my arms and you looked up at me there was no way I was leaving without you.
You lived side by side with Jasper until he was clear from being neutered and I also found a little friend, Ruffles. When it was time I bonded you all, you and Jasper didn’t have live at first sight because Jasper was terrified, but after a difficult 24 hours it was a success!
You were the leader of the herd, when strange furless newbies arrived you took them under your wing and showed them how to live harmoniously together.
You grew back your fur with gusto and for a while you had such luscious locks Goldilocks would have been jealous! Mable was very jealous too and she ensured you always had a very short cut at the barber shop and from then on you preferred a short up top and a big fulffy behind! Mummy had to even it out and give you a bum trim in the summer, although you hated this and would try to kick out your back legs at me!
If truth be told I had noticed you slowing down, sleeping more and hiding away for a good few months now. But you’ve always been happy, eating and popcorning around and it’s only in hindsight I’ve realised maybe you were trying to tell me something.
The past couple of weeks you became unwell. Blood in your pee and crying. I also suspected ovarian cysts. This was confirmed and over the past could have weeks we’ve been trying medication combinations to get you feeling better, to no avail. Then you started to stop eating yourself. Off to the vets again we went and this time you had surgery in a hope this would get you feeling much better. But alas it didn’t. You were cold when they brought you round and I fear that since then your body just couldn’t fight anymore and was gradually shutting down.
You passed away peacefully last night in your sleep. Your piggy friends had all already said goodbye and were getting in with life, so I suspected what was coming.
I wish love could have saved you, because I know I’d have been able to keep you here forever. I’m sad that I didn’t get longer with your sassy bum in my life. You were an amazing herd leader (sshh I won’t tell the boys who thought they were the boss!)
We are all going to miss you so much.
