Hello, all.
Please forgive me if this is something that has been covered already. I am not very good at using these forums and failed to find the information that I am looking for.
One of our little piggies broke his incisors recently. Before that, he had been losing weight, and despite bloodwork, urine tests and imaging, our vet has been unable to figure out why. We have been weighing him a few times a day to chart his weight, and while my husband was weighing him recently, Peanut took a crazy leap out of the box we weigh him in and fell off the table. We took him to the vet, who did an examination and found that his top incisors had broken. His weight was already not good, but it is especially low now that he can't eat well. The vet said to just provide him with lots of julienned vegetables, which we are doing, but we're not pleased with his weight. The vet said not to worry too much if his weight dips a little, but seeing as he is already low weight, I'm quite anxious to see it hovering at 954g when he is usually around 990g.
Does anyone have any advice on feeding him his pellets? He won't eat them as a mash, even when I put it in his mouth, he somehow spits it back out. The pellets fall out of his mouth when I feed them to him whole.
He's also not eating hay. He's always been a good hay eater, but we can't figure out how to get him to take it right now. We've tried cutting it up, and we've also tried to pick out the soft pieces for him, but he still just tries to eat the regular hay and fails. He lives with his brother, so we have left the regular hay for the brother, Snoopy. Funny thing is, his brother likes to eat the chopped hay, and Peanut continues and fails at eating the regular hay.
We asked the vet about some Critical Care, but he didn't think it necessary, so we don't have any.
I've left a message asking for an appointment at the vet's again on Monday,
but any advice I could get before that would be greatly appreciated. I'm very worried and willing to try anything I can to fatten my poor little guy up again.
Thanks in advance!
