Broken Leg

Sweetpea my guinea broke her front leg and was a clean break of both bones, she's better, had it splinted but kept pulling splint off lol, best of luck

Ah what a cutie!
My piggy's 3 days post op from having pin inserted into his femur - he jumped out of my hands whilst i was lowering him into his run and even though it was only a short drop he landed awkwardly. I felt soooo guilty but took him to the vet straight away. At first she said there was nothing they could do but I asked her if there was anything surgically that could be done she had a word with the orthopaedic vet and he said he'd do the op. He's still with us and though I know he's been through the worst I worry he's not going to get through this cos he's not drinking... :(

Aw, what a brave boy you have. If he is not drinking too much, give his veggies a good wash in cold water and shake off the excess, he will gain fluid that way or any juicy fruit (in small amounts) or cucumber. I have two awkward boars :{ that refuse to drink from a bottle and a dish but have survived 10 months so they're getting it from somewhere rolleyes

Thought I'd give everyone an update. Pins have been removed yesterday and she seems to be doing very well. Running around the run and cage, munching lots of veggies and grass. Just her usual self really. I've attached some pics of her with the pins and some Xrays (to be honest, i don't think the pins did much to straighten the leg....a matchstick and bandage would have done a similar job). I'll get some more photos over the weekend as well of her pretty much recovered. The leg is slightly bent but she doesn't seem to mind.

Awww... she's a cutie. I'm glad to hear she's healing well and thanks for posting the pic and x-rays. Fascinating. :)

Awww- poor little sweetie, I'm glad she's making a good recovery! And thanks for the x-ray pics- I've never seen a piggie x-ray before and it's very interesting!

Aww, I remember reading this thread when you first posted it. So pleased you didn't listen to the vet and gave your piggie a chance! Glad to hear she is doing well, she is a beauty drool and how interesting are the piggie x-rays?! Thanks for the update :)

Joining the ranks of those fascinated by the x-ray images! Amazing stuff.

I'm glad she's getting better :)
