Broken Nail

I've just gone to cut my piggies nails and on his front right paw one of his nails appears to have snapped off. It doesn't appear to be causing distress but his toe (for lack of a word) does look a little swollen. I'm not sure how this could have happened as he hasn't been outside. It doesn't look infected.

Anyone else had something similar? I'm thinking I'll keep an eye on it and take him to the vet if gets worst or he seems to be in pain. Any advice welcome.
