I've just found this patch of broken skin on Flumpet. It's just to the right of her spine about half way down her back. She didn't flinch when I touched it and it's dry.

Best picture I could get I'm afraid. I didn't notice it yesterday when I had her on my lap but she did have a scab/ white crusty type thing in a similar place a couple of weeks ago, which went after I treated it with GG supersouffle cream.
I'm thinking mites or fungal. She hasn't been scratching all that much. Will try and get a vet appointment but some advice would be appreciated.

I was about to ask if she lived with other pigs because, to me, it looks like a bite mark but looks like it's healing :)

I'm hoping that's all it is. I have booked an appointment with the vet for tomorrow just in case. I thought I would have another look at it in the morning. I'm more bothered by it than she is! rolleyes

That's about right :)) Hope all's well at the vets :)

Sorry I don't really know but hope little Flumpet is ok and heals up soon. Hope your Vet has the answer so you can stop worrying x

The vet wasn't sure it was a bite and there was quite a bit of flaky skin. They've both ahd ivermectin injections in case it is mites (they both cried :() and are going back next week for a second injection and to check on progress.

I think it looks like mites - which can also often look like bites! :))

Should clear up pretty quickly if so. Might be worth keeping some Xeno450 or similar in the cupboard for next time, as piggies tend to get mites on and off for no particular reason and it's easier to treat them (no injection!) if you know what it is.

Hope she's better soon

Thanks Sophie. I was concerned it was mites from the description on GG but it's so difficult when you've not actually seen it for real, so to speak. The vet did say she could give me the spot on but they recommended the injection. She also gave Flumpet a small dose of steroid to ease any itching. Was a bit more stressful that I thought though.
Will get some xeno for future use though, thanks. I think it's time I organised myself into getting my first aid kit together. Have been a bit lax. rolleyes

The injections are fine but guineas have very thick skin and it does make them squeal! I took my first pigs for injections too, when I wasn't sure what it was. Having had lots now, they all get ivomec regularly!

Laura's got a great sticky on first aid kits - well worth keeping some stuff in the cupboard.... :) although I now have so much stuff that it doesn't fit (just in case!)
