Hi, I noticed on Saturday that one of my pigs has broken all 4 of her front teeth and am unsure whether or not she needs to go to the vet. She seems ok and is eating absolutely fine (still a greedy guts) but one of the bottom teeth has a chip in about a third of the way down. Should I just keep an eye on it and hope they grow back ok or is it best to take her to a vet and get them seen? I could only manage to get a pic of her bottom teeth and it's not the best quality (it's the one on the right that has the chip)

Thanks in advance for any advice x

That lloks like quite a decent job of damaging the teeth, poor piggy! Personally, I would have them checked to make sure that the roots are still firm. Thankfully, teeth grow back quickly.

Until then, please check the weight daily, cut up hay (should still make up to 80% of the daily food intake) and grate veg if necessary.

you could have them filed to take away the sharp edges, preventing her from cutting up her tongue/lips if the same thing happens twice.. though eating on nuggets etc will do this over time anyway. Your vet will probably say its not worth it!

The tooth should grow back pretty quickly. Please weigh her every day, although she can eat you may find she's not managing to eat as much so will loose weight. I'm currently sat on the sofa next to my piggy Gerry who did exactly the same thing. I let him eat his veggies seperately because he's slower eating at the moment and his girlfriend Penny is scoffing more than her share!

Ahh, thanks for your replies. She's definitely not eating any slower, she's a beast! But will keep checking. Gave the vet a ring to see what they thought and they said to bring her in so she's off to get seen tonight :-)

If she is eating fine and isn't losing weight then you do not have much to worry about and the tooth will eventually grow back. It is still best to have her seen by a vet though. Good luck!
