I have just spotted that my piggy has broken both of his bottom teeth, one to the gum virtually and the other about 3/4 broken off. I feel awful as I don't know when this could of happened or how! He has floor time every day with me, is eating well, I weight them each week and noticed a 20gram weight loss so thought I would look him over thoroughly and spotted this. When I looked in his mouth I feel his top front teeth look a bit long so feel devastated that it may have happened a while and I haven't noticed. I will get him to the vet ASAP but just wondering does he need an urgent appointment? Is he in pain? And what else can I do to help him? Worried about what vets can offer at this time with coronavirus. Many thanks for any help. x

there is a very interesting page on Guinea Pig Lynx Guinea Lynx :: Broken Teeth that shows a guinea pig with a broken tooth and how it grows back. My guinea pig Ted broke two lower incisors (no idea how) three weeks ago and his teeth have grown back. Have a look at this link, it will explain how as the teeth grow back they wear against the opposing teeth and even up. Keep an eye on his weight if stable and he is eating and pooping well then just be vigilant. If you are at all worried then see a vet x

Thank you Bill & Ted your post and that link have given me alot of reassurance. It was just such a shock to see them broken. I will keep a very close eye on him and his teeth. Thank you again, x

Years ago one of my piggies got down by a friends child and broke all 4 front teeth. They grew back quiet quickly. I did do some hand feeding while they were growing back with bits of finely cropped veg, as he was able to manage to eat hay and nuggets on his own.xx

Thank you for your reply rhymer. I contacted a couple of vets today to see if anyone could have a look but because they don't feel it's urgent I have been advised to keep an eye on him which I will do. 🙂 Fingers crossed he will have perfect teeth again soon!

We went through a similar thing with Ruby several years ago.
We switched to daily weighing at the same time each day.
I took her out of the cage once or twice a day to give her more time to eat her fresh veggies, which I cut into long strips with the veggie peeler.
I also offered 'pellet mush' alongside the regular pellets.
She held her weight pretty well ,and the teeth grew back quickly and wore evenly.
She never needed to see a vet.

Thanks for the great advice swissgreys. Much appreciated.
