Hi, my 1 year old boar has broken both his bottom teeth off :(

He managed to get one of the children's hamma beads stuck round the base of them and when the vet pulled if off his tooth broke off below the gum line.

A few days later the other one was missing too. This must have been nearly 4 weeks ago and there is still no sign of re-growth.

We had to take him to have his top teeth filed down last week as they obviously have nothing to wear against now.

Is it 'normal' for teeth to take so long to re-grow, I thought it was only a couple of weeks and I'm getting worried now. Also he'll have to go and have his teeth filed again shortly.

Thanks in advance.

4 weeks sounds like a long time. When my little one broke his teeth they started growing back in a week. But he was young so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
Hope someone comes along soon to help. Have you been making sure he can eat his pellets/veg? Grating veg is a good idea and I broke the excel nuggets in half so he could just pick them up and crunch rather than having to bite them.

I would expect regrowth after four weeks.
I had a guinea pig that lost its top teeth and they had almost grown back at a month.

Approx 2 weeks ago I found one of my sows had broken off half of her top right incisor & completely sheared off the bottom left below the gum, my vet thought the likely cause was she'd been biting something when something or somepig spooked her.
She too had her intact top incisor burred to the same length as her broken one & I too have yet to see some growth. Her bottom incisor does look to be growing but it hasn't broken through the gum, I too thought I would see some growth by now as their teeth seem to grow so fast & will be taking my girl back to the vets if I don't see something soon.
The good news is the damage to her teeth hasn't impacted on her ability to eat dry food, hay or veggies. :)

I thought I'd do an update incase anyone else has a simliar problem.

Piggle's lower teeth are just beginning to grow through! It has taken ages and he has now had his top teeth filed twice.

The vet seems to think that they'll be fine, just slow growing. Every piggy different, just like people.

He has been eating his hay, pellets and veg the whoe time, i have cut up small and given him peelings, which he manages well. He also manages grass nibbling fine.

The good thing is he's not so bossy with my other boar now. Having no bottom teeth put him in his place!

Thanks for help.
