I took Arwyn to the vet about 5 weeks ago, as I didn't like the sound his breathing made. They checked him over and said he was fine. To keep an eye on him. In the meantime, Vashtian, his brother had an operation, complications and died, a month ago today.

I heard Arwyn making a different sound whilst breathing and on weighing saw he had lost a lot of weight in a short space of time, so took him back to the vet again today.

After an x-ray, bronchitis has been confirmed and he is now on Septrin, antibiotics twice daily for 10 days.

I would appreciate knowing what to expect. He is eating really well, despite the weight loss and has no mucous but he is making strange clicking noises, almost like choking, from time to time. I want to be prepared as I was devastated on losing his brother last month.

Thank you.

I wanted to give my sympathies on the loss of your piggie last month. I've been there, and know it's heartbreaking. I don't have much advice about URIs or Septrin, but just want to wish Arwyn a speedy recovery. Many healing wheeks to him!

So sorry about your piggie last month.

Try not to panic too much. Bronchitis is not a death sentence. You just need to keep a close eye on her for now. Septrin is a good antibiotic, just ensure she is eating well and bright in herself. Bronchitis is simply inflammation of the upper airway, it can sometimes cause some mucous, and if this happens try asking for something like Bisolvin powder to help dry this up. If she does not make much improvement in the next few days/week then i would pop back to the vets and explain. It may be that she will need to be on another antibiotic too to help get rid of the infection. The clicking noise is a typical sound with respiratory infections and the choking will probably be her coughing, as she has an upper airway infection, much like a bad cough with us.

For now just watch her closely and with any worries call your vet for advice. Its just a case of being vigilant with her thats all.

x.
