Hello!

I check my female long haired piggie underneath every week and this week I noticed a brown crust over her genitals. I gave her a wipe with warm water and a cotton pad, it came away easily and seemed to only be on the outside. I am slightly concerned however and unsure as to what it could be, whether it's a plug or perhaps dried poop, and if its something I should be concerned about/vet worthy. Any suggestions would be warmly welcomed.

Thanks!

My RB piggy Velvet had something similar when she had bladder sludge when she had a bladder stone. I'm not suggesting this is what your piggy had of course as I'm not a vet and can only go from your description. A vet visit is always advisable just to rule out anything sinister.

Thanks for your reply!

Did Velvet have any further symptoms?
My girl is fine otherwise, eating plenty hay, very active, peeing/popping normally. Will keep an eye over the next day or so.

Did the vet do anything for Velvet?

Thanks.

No Velvet had no other symptoms. When I took Velvet to the vets after she had passed the bladder stone

she very helpfully did a wee on the examination table and it was all sludgy. The vet said to give her cystease (to calm the bladder walls) and to syringe water into her to help flush the sludge out. I wouldn't have given her cystease or syringed water into her had the vet not said it was OK to do so.

If it is bladder sludge, it is very unlikely to go away by itself. I would take her to the vet for a proper diagnosis. The smallest thing and I'm at the vets with my piggies. A vet would rather see a healthy animal and an anxious owner rather than an owner who has left it too late. Remember piggies are very good at hiding illnesses as they are prey animals.

Hi!

It is more likely just an oxidised calcium pee dried on from your piggy sitting in it.

However, if you have concerns, please see a vet.
