Hi there, I'm Lauren, i have recently got a guinea pig, her name is pepper and she is 5-6 weeks. Just before when i picked her up i realised she had gooey, liquid brown stuff coming out of her vagina. It had spread up her legs aswell. I didnt know what is was so i bathed her legs and that in warmish water and it went, but I'm not sure if more was on its way out. I wouldnt of though guinea pigs would get diarrea :{
Please can you help me,
thanks
Lauren

Are there any hard poops?

What is she eating?

Has she been on any meds?

Need lots of info really to figure it out, as much info as you can, and maybe a pic?

maybe it was a one off, due to change in where she is living? When did you get her? Also, i think a change in diet could reflect dodgy poops.

I think if she is also doing hard ones, shes **** ok, but you must keep an eye on her just in case.

I'm sure you will get lots of other advice also x

Hiya,

If she is 5-6 weeks old now and you have had her for 2 weeks, then did you really get her at 3-4 weeks old? If so, then it really is far too young! At 3-4 weeks old, most piggies are still with their mums, especially if they are baby sows, is she on her own or with another pig?

It may just be that she has such an imature digestive system at that age, that she has picked up a diarroheoa type bug from somewhere. I personally would not give her any veg for a few days, just some hard mix and lots of nice hay so her system can calm down a bit.

I don't know where you got her from but they should stop rehoming their pigs so young - at that age they need their mum.

Best of luck with her.

Its not too young. I got mine at 4 weeks old. Pigs are weaned by 14-21 days (according to guinea lynx anyway.

Its not a case of them not being weaned, but i still think that it is far too young to be rehomed. I know that this is only my personal opinion, but i wouldn't buy a puppy at 5 weeks or a rabbit at 5 weeks either.

At the age of 5 or 6 weeks, a piggie still has an imature digestive system compared to an older animal, so i would suggest feeding the baby good quality hay, a small amount of mix and no veg until whatever it is is out of the system. You can also give a couple of bramble leaves (not prickly ones) which help to settle the stomach.
