I have two boars, they're both about 2 months old.Today I switched from a wooden cage + wood pellets(i've never seem their urine before) to c&c + fleece, and the last few days i've been introducing different pellets...now i noticed a brownish liquid next to the hay, but they seem okay, they are eating/drinking normally and running around like crazy at this very moment. Is it normal or should i take them to the vet asap? i was using a very good flashlight and it doesn't look so red in person.

Hi! It looks like strongly oxidised pee sitting on the surface of your fleece. Most pees oxidise when they have left the body; the colour gets the darker the longer it has been in contact with air and the more concentrated a pee is (varies naturally from piggy to piggy and is nothering to worry about).

Is your fleece washed with a softener-free product to allow it to absorb any moisture? You will need to wash it without softener 2-3 times at the beginning to get all of it out and allow the fleece to wick any fluid down to the absorbent underlay so the surface can stay dry and your piggies are not sitting in their own pee puddles.

If in any doubt, please see a vet.

What to check and look out for in new guinea pigs (vet checks, sexing, parasites&illness)
