As the title says I got home from work to find Bruno had something stuck to his manly area! It was hard and waxy and had hay stuck in it. So I set to soaking his bum area and got the hay out but this waxy stuff was stuck right in there!
I have heard about boar glue but never seen it. Could this be it? I called my vet and she said to bring him before they closed. They soaked it somemore and pulled it out! It was massive! Nobody knew what it was! He seems fine just humiliated. But it was up in there!
I feel bad that the vet stayed late but hope bruno will be ok and this is just a boar thing. Has anyone had this experience?

Was it a sperm rod? If so I'd be a bit concerned that the vet didn't know what it was :mal:

Hope he's feeling better!

I don't know I did think that, I've never seen one before let alone have to remove one! I am not keen on the vet that works the late shift she is not guinea savey but they do have a few really good ones. Just when we have to do these quick trips you get who ever is on duty. Will removing a spur be bad?

It sounds like boar glue (dried semen), which can form rods in the penis shaft.

Yes! That picture is what poor Bruno had! I have a good mind to forward this to the vet! Omg. I hope he will feel better now it's out! And that he doesn't get an infection. Thank you so much guys! This is the place to come for info! I've had guineas for years and have seen some things but this is a first!

My pig bites from Bruno, he was not happy with me! I'm sure he was having a worse time than me so I forgive him!

Poor you! But I am sure that your boy is a LOT more comfortable now!

My Nosgan has not quite forgiven me yet for taking him to the vet because he had sudden major build-up of hardened smegma in his (painfully distended) penis shaft which I couldn't get out by myself because he was too wiggly and my hub too squeamish. It was a knock-on thing from his post-op hernia, which in turn causes impaction and has obviously also an effect on the penis, too... I check his bits every time I clean the cage to keep an eye of his hernia swelling, so it can't have been around for long. Smegma is normally cheesy in texture, not concrete-like. :(
