I noticed this morning that Bubbles wee was ever so slightly pink, from what I've seen on here this could be a UTI? He's about 3 1/2 yrs old...

He seems fine in himself, eating and pooping normally and doesn't appear to be in any pain when peeing... so I'm hoping this is something and nothing.

We're off to the vets at 4pm... anyone have any advice?

Hope everything goes well. Would take a urine sample with you. So vet can test for traces of blood.

Really easy to do

1. Feed piggie some wet veg or if you like syringe a little water.

2. Pop piggie in a clean washing up bowl or big tupperware.

3. Wait for nature to take it's course.....

4. Syringe up wee in a syringe and squirt it into a specimen bottle.

5. Store bottle in fridge and take to vets.

1ml Syringes and Specimen bottles can be got from chemists.

Let us know how they get on x

ok back from the vets. Managed to get a sample from bubbles which typically looked "normal" not the slightest bit pink!
The vet tested it and said it did show a trace of blood and protein in it, also a small amount of glucose.

Whilst we were there Bubbles weed several times on the table and showed no discomfort at all. The vet felt his bladder and couldn't feel any stones but said it felt thickened.

Bubbles had a shot of antibiotic and we now have a 7 day course of Baytril to administer at home. Vet said to dilute 0.2ml in 100ml of water and give 1ml from that mixture twice a day. Is this normal, I've not seen anyone else mention that they have to dilute the antibiotics?

I'm slightly worried as I don't think my vet is in anyway experienced with guinea pigs as she did mention wanting to put the antibiotics in the water bottle and let both piggies drink from it ! I had to push her to allow me to administer the antibiotic orally directly to bubbles as I really dont want Patches (Bubbles cage mate) to have meds if he doesn't need them.

I live in the Wigan area (Northwest) and wonder if anyone knows a more guinea pig expereinced vet witihn a 10 mile radius? I know there is somewhere in Manchester but thats over 30 miles away and would take an hour to get there, which I think would stress my boys out.

Sorry to go on, but I'm worrying....?/:0

I haven't heard of putting AB's in the water bottle, I certainly wouldn't medicate any piggie that way.

Bumping this for you for any experienced members to recomend a vets near to you. I would get a vets second opinion in this case if I were you.

Hope you find an exotic vet, we're in the North West and ours is Birch Heath in Tarporley but that's even further than Manchester from you unfortunately. Maybe you could give them a ring and ask if they can recommend anyone experienced with guinea pigs in your area? http://www.birchheathexoticvets.com/

Really sorry to hear about Bubbles........... you did the right thing going to the vets.
But yes i'm surprised to hear about watering down antibiotics !
Your instincts have kicked WELL DONE! :)
I'm sure some of our more experienced peeps will help you out soon...

HEALING WHEEEEEEEKS FOR BUBBLES XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

aww thank you all so much. I did have a look at the recommended vets list but missed the link to that one, will ring them now and take Bubbles for a second opinion.

I've not heard of watering down meds either. Typically when Thelma gets a UTI (she is always getting one) the vet prescribes 0.4ml twice daily. Good luck with the second opinion. Sending healing vibes to Bubbles xx
