Hi. You guys helped me so much with Buckwheat during his eye removal episodes, so I thought I'd come back and see what you' think...again.

Buckwheat started acting funny last Friday. He wasn't eating (would run to his food, sniff it, take a couple bites then stop), would put himself in a corner and just stare, lay a lot, and grind his teeth noises (I started syringe feeding him at that time). I took him to the vet last Monday, and he said everything looked normal but could have a internal infection or maybe even a seed caught in his teeth that can't be seen. The Vet gave me an antibiotic and Critical Care for Buckwheat. I am out of town for two weeks, but my boyfriend is tending to Buckwheat. This morning he called me because he thought maybe the white of his eye (remember, he only has one) isn't looking normal. So I had him send me a couple of pics and told Jeff I'd come on here to seek any opinions. Plus, does anyone know if antibiotics change the whites of a Guinea Pig's eye? :O/

Luv You Guys & Thank You for Any Advice!

So sorry to here that Buckwheats been poorly. I lack the experience to advise but I’m sure someone will come along soon. Hope he gets better soon x

I’ll try and tag your message to @furryfriends (TEAS) I think we are a bit short on the ground with health issues but it’s always best to get a vet to check. Debbie might be able to give you her opinion

I am no expert, but it does look like there is/has been some crustiness around his eye.
What is his weight like - I find that is often the best indicator in guinea pigs when it can sometimes be hard to tell if they are unwell?
What antibiotic is he on?

But your boyfriend sounds amazing, and it does sound like sweet Buckwheat is in excellent hands.

Yes, Jeff is a sweetheart, when it comes to animals (lol). The Vet said Buckwheat's weight is a little low (but I think it's due to his sickness. He's usually above average), and Jeff said that there was a little crust in his eye yesterday that he rid of with a warm washcloth. The antibiotics given are 1x a day for 7 days, and they are: Metronidazole and Metacam. :O/ Thank you so much for your help. Don't what I'd do without you'll! XOX
