I'm taking one of my sows Blossom to the vet on Tuesday morning, possibly to be admitted for an x-ray. She's bonded with a pair of sisters (since October) that didn't have the best start of life and are still fairly squittish and petrified of humans they don't know. I've always brought a buddy with a pig that's going to the vet, but I can't decide with this lot. If I take one of the sisters, the remaining sister will spend the day on her own at home which might upset her, if I take both with Blossom, they will both be afraid at the vet's, plus it will get a bit cramped in the carrier (1 hour trip) on the way there and back. Or do I just take Blossom on her own?

I also have 3 girls and when my Elizabeth recently had to go to the vets for an ultrasound and then a couple of days later for a fine needle biopsy, I took all 3. However, if Blossom is being admitted for the day, I’d check with the vet first if you can take all 3, if not, I’d just take Blossom. I hope all goes well for her x

I would take all three if you can. Is there any chance you could find a bigger carrier perhaps look in the local ads for a dog carrier instead of the cat ones most of us buy which is good for two piggies

It is always a bit of a toss up with trios.

I am doing it both ways, depending on the trio. If I have an extremely skittish piggy that is not the patient, then I have on occasion opted to only take the patient; if I feel they are all closely bonded and will do better to share the experience (even if it is as a learning experience for a newbie), then I will take all three. It very much depends for me. My piggy savvy vet for anything that exceeds my local general vet's proficiency (including operations) and that is not an emergency that needs to be seen by the first vet possible is about an hour's journey away for me, too.

PS: Piggies mostly squash up in a corner during the journey anyway. They may complain about it but they usually won't move an inch.

Thank you, I need to sleep on it. Blossom seems to be more keen on the sisters than the other way around, and I'm not sure how great companions they'll be, but I guess there's only one way to find out. I used to have a trio where one of them would be delighted to have some time away from the others, so that was easier.

It's not always an easy decision. Go with your gut in the end.
