Yesterday I went to get Buddy out for a cuddle and noticed an awful smell - when I picked him up he had puss all over his tummy :( This was a total surprise as I hadn't noticed anything in the past few days! Mum and I cleaned it up with warm water and noticed the hole was about 1cm deep and it was horrid. Being a Sunday afternoon, I had to take him to the emergency vet, who was very good and flushed it. However, he didn't give him any antibiotics, which I thought was a little odd. he just said to clean it 3 times a day and to bring him back if he starts not eating or acts funny. He thinks it was caused by the suture from neutering, even though he had healed perfectly, this just wasn't seen :(
I had to go back to uni today so I've left him with my parents having to clean it...I hope he's going to be ok :( Poor little guy!

One of my piggys (Toffee) had an op to remove a dental abscess last week - it was really big on her chin and appeared from nowhere overnight - seems they can come up quick.

They left a hole for me to flush it twice a day with salty water (1 teaspoon salt to a pint of boiled water and cooled..... flushed with it at body temp)

Hope yours clears up ok

xx

PS we also got antibiotics though...

Archie got an abscess after his neutering even though it had healed really well...it's odd. I hope Buddy's ok though :).

Poor Buddy - get well soon little piggie

xxxxxxx

Boris had exactly the same thing, his came from nowhere too :(

Boris was given a couse of Baytril (about 10 days I think) and we were given hibiscrub to flush it with. His cleared up in less than a fortnight.

Hope Buddy is okay and heals up quickly x x

aww bet you hated leaving him, hope he is ok, i think i would be asking for antibiotics, but I'm sure someone else will advise you better xx

You never forget that smell, it's so horrid!
When I picked some of the Lymington piggies up they had terrible absesses the smell was revolting.
They can come up very quickly. George had a huge one from a bite from his then house mate. We had antibiotics, pain killer, cleaned it out with a cotton bud dipped in salt water and applied (medical) manuka honey after cleaning 3 times a day. The honey helps to draw out the badness according to our vet. She swears by it, she's even used it on horses, clears it up in no time at all.
