Buddy, my guinea pig, is dead. And I think it was my fault. I don't know what I'm going to do, and I don't know whats going to happen to Pepsi. He's been with her since birth, never apart for more than an hour.

Last night I took her out of her cage and brought her downstairs with me so I could get them some carrots. Halfway across the kitchen she managed to leap from my arms and hit the floor with a thud. I was holding her like I always did, and she just took a flying leap. I grabbed her off the floor and set her on the counter. She seemed fine so I went on cutting up their carrots. I looked over and Buddy was rolling over onto her side. I started screaming and calling my mom. The vets office was closed so we couldn't take her in, and she was having like a siezure of some sort. Her legs were twitching and her body was rolling around. My dad took her out in the garage to look at her, and when he brought her back in she was sitting up and looking sort of awake. We thought she was getting better until she tried to walk around. Her back left leg just flailed around in the air and she flopped onto her side again. My dad put her into another room so she could 'calm down.' I think he knew she wasn't going to get better and didn't want me to see her go.

My little baby finally passed on at 6:32pm on May 20, 2008.

Oh I'm so sorry, accidents happen I know it is of no comfort. But please don't blame yourself.

Thinking of you x

I just keep thinking about what might have happened if I had been holding her tighter, or left her in her cage...

Pepsi spent all last night wandering around his cage, and I had him out this morning and he wouldn't stop walking around my bed. I think he was looking for her. Is there anything I can do to make this easier on him?

So sorry to hear about Buddy, the others are right - it could happen to anyone, sometimes there just aren't enough hands to hold on to them... don't blame yourself. Pepsi is probably wondering where Buddy is if he didn't get a chance to say goodbye, it might take him a few days to get used to her not being there.

Sending you HUGE hugs

0:) 0:) 0:) perhaps stick a teddy in for pepsi to cuddle up too, you could also take him out of the cage and scrub it so all scent of buddy is gone O0 it is normal when we lose a loved one be it animal or person we go through the what if's phrase. it might be too soon as pepsi has to grieve too but maybe consider getting him a friend to help heal his depression, you could take him to a rescue and let him pick out a friend. sending hugs to you both :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

So sorry to hear about Buddy, try not to blame yourself, unfortortunately sometimes accidents happen. RIP little one 0:)

I got a teddy bear (haha it's meant to be a dog toy but thats okay) and put it in there..not sure if he's cuddled or not.

He hasn't eaten much today and sort of just sits in Buddy's corner, almost waiting for her to come back.

Have you cleaned their cage so it doesn't smell of Buddy any more? That might help... sorry, don't know what else to suggest. Have you got any other piggies?

Pepsi and Buddy were my only pigs.

Pepsi seems really depressed. He's sitting in a corner of their...his..cage just staring off. I think he's waiting for her to come back.

So sorry to hear about Buddy :'( But don't blame yourself. There is probably a reason why she jumped out of your arms. Just remember that you loved her right up until she died xx

Aw i'm so sorry, dont blame yourself as other people have said accidents happen. Must be hard for you as it was a shock, Honey (RIP) was ill for so long I sort of expected it :'(

So sorry to hear that but like evryone has said it wasnt your fault, just give Pepsi some time to adjust to being alone and if they are still sad maybe get them a new friend
