We 'rescued' (I know we shouldn't have done this as it's just encouraging them to not look after them, and yes I did report the pet shop) a baby boar from a pet shop who was scabby from mites. We treated him for mites and his scabs have cleared up without incidence. However, he still has slightly bulging eyes - you can see a little bit of the white around them. I've heard this can be due to overgrown molars and when we first got him, he would very occasionally wiggle his ears and 'yawn' before spitting out the grass. However, he only did this for the first few days and we were careful to only feed him grass and hay to wear his teeth down. He's eating fine now and putting weight and has been since after the first few days.

Any ideas why his eyes are still slightly bulging though?

If it was just one eye, it could also be because he had an abscess behind it, but with two I'd suspect either teeth or just nature.

Have you checked out his molars?

Sorry, I have never come across tooth trouble with my own piggies, so I can't help you with this, but there are some other members on here that can help you better.

Please, be aware that we are all just members on here and that especially on a weekend people won't be coming on all the time.

If he is eating normally and gaining weight, it's quite unlikely to be teeth. Checking the molars is quite a skill; some people use tools to open the mouth and view them, while others (like myself) hold the jaws open and feel the molars. It is an art learning the correct way to prop open the jaw, and I admit to having let my grip falter at times and have had a couple of minor bites as a result!

Since both eyes are bulging, it may just be a normal characteristic, or he may still have a little weight to gain which will put everything a bit more "in proportion". There are medical conditions which cause the eyes to bulge, but as your piggie is young it's unlikely to be anything serious.

A dental problem is unlikely.
The eyes of a healthy guinea pig do bulge slightly, if you look directly down onto the top of his head you should see his eyes.
However, if the whites of his eyes are very noticeable he could have a skin problem ie a fungal infection.
