Hi there we need your advice!

We have a seven month old boar tubes who lost his brother four weeks ago.... Of thr two tubes was the quiet one so ince we had calmed him down then socialised him with us we decided to get him a friend. We contacted Helen from Becklen and went down today. Helen had in mind her own boar as a perfect laid back friend for tubes so we tried; annoyance took place almost instantly it was pretty heated.... So we tried a four week old boar and after a while it was fine - tubes established dominance and the lil guy chilled! We drove home with them in the bag and it was ok (Helen warned us that tubes may try and mate with his face a dominance thing so I kept am eye!)... We got them home bathed them and put them in a fresh cage with two of everything and it started - then got better and they began cuddling in the cosy... However every time the baby moved tubes would block him or mount him! He started front and back then would not let him be the baby was terrified! (his previous cage friend was mellow so to have tubes bully him is awful!) it got worse and chattering and I'm sure we saw a nip..so we resolved to separating them to cages next to each other! However wen tubes saw him and he saw tubes they started chatting so now I'm confused but I don't want to scare the lil guy buy putting him somewhere he is terrified and can't escape! I maybe a newbie but it's so sad to watch! If anyone can give us advice we would really appreciate it! Xx

I would take any hideys out so that there is nowhere for either to claim as territory. Suzy from Glynneath GP recommends putting a soft toy in so that the dominant piggy can turn their humping attentions to that instead of the other piggy. It does sound more like sorting out dominance issues than aggression at the moment though.

This thread about boar behaviour is worth reading. :)

Thanks for that... I would agree with you but it was the loud teeth chattering. Although they seem happy in duff cages but knowing the other is right there.... Tomorrow I'll put them on neutral ground and see how we go from there.... Can I ask will I die down? And how long does the dominance dance as were calling it last?(approx).... Again thanks for the advice ;)
