hello!
my boy Sam is getting a bit mucky around his greasy area and is catching all kinds of things on his bum - hay, bedding etc. (his surrounding fur is also getting very greasy and yucky!)
I'm fully aware of the cold weather of the moment so just want to know whether it's a good idea to give him a bum bath or just leave it until next year.
Are there ways you can reduce the greasiness and grime without doing a proper bum bath?

Thanks :)

If he's getting mucky and getting things tangled, pop the heating on for a couple of hours and give him a quick bum bath and trim, and make sure you have a snuggly towel warmed on the radiator ready for afterwards :) I thought we'd done Blodwen's last bum bath and trim for the winter a couple of weeks ago, but she suddenly grew some long winter skirts and today she used them to sweep up a load of half chewed broccolli bits...! So probably there will be smelly tangled broccolli dreadlocks needing attention over the school half term week :)

My boars were a bit mucky round the bum area so I used a flannel dipped Iin coconut oil- a small pot from Holland and Barrett was £1 on offer. You only need a little and work it in to loosen the matted bits and comb it through. Worked a treat and the boys smelt lovely, like Bounty bars 😊

I use unscented baby wipes for Priscilla, my long haired girl.
She does need an occasional bum bath but the baby wipes help minimise the need.

thank you for all the advice, I have a coconut cream by Nivea (pictured) would this do? It contains monoi oil so just want to be absolutely sure I'm using stuff that is safe. View attachment 155953

I don't have any baby wipes but have a flannel so I could dip that in water if that would do the job rather than a proper bath?

Forgot to update on the mucky bum situation so doing so a few weeks late: I got some coconut oil for him with a nice soft flannel and wiped his bum like he was a little baby... Let's just say he can cry like a baby XD I don't blame him bless, but goodness for such a tiny creature he sure can moan a lot!
I did do it in the end and got all the yucky hay out, much better now :)

And now for a spam of Sam pigtures because he wanted me to share :luv:

Heehee well, when I finally get round to doing it (I'm a major procrastinator :)) ), I'llbe making a thread just for Frodo and Sam (and one for the gerbils too :) ) and then there'll be lots to gaze at :)
