Bumble Foot Or Something Else? With Picture

Hi,

My guinea pig Kojack is a rescued skinny pig.

The people who had him before neglected him so much that his feet were in the worst state ever.

When we first got him he had real bad bumble foot but this gradually (along with gorgeous guineas cream and fleece bedding) got better over time.

His feet were then completely cleared with the odd scab (no major sores or wounds) but they always retained their deformed state, especially his toes and nails which now permanently go in all sorts of funny angles.

we have just checked his feet for his normal nail trims, and it looks like a huge blood blister has formed? if you kind of press it, it looks like blood is in it?

I'm hugley panicking because two weeks ago we lost my gorgeous girl Doris. She had ongoing bladder problems which we had just cleared. Then weirdly one of her foot swelled up, a few days later she got a sudden and very fierce respiratory virus which took her almost instantly.

Is there another swollen foot problem I should know about? Could this be linked to respiratory virus? This is too strange to be a coincidence. I'm having a real panic about it

I have no idea. However that does not look very comfortable at all. I would book him in for a quick checkup at the vets when it opens.

I would get him in to the vets tomorrow if possible as it does look like it might be infected.

I agree he needs to be examined by a vet.keep him moving so he does not stay in one position to long.you could bathe it in salt water to prevent dirt getting into sore,or it bursting.please try to be very gentle as it can be very painful for your cavy.keep close observation until able to get an appointment at your vets.ensure he is eating well,as pain can make a piggie to stop eating,I'm sure you are aware of all this. hope he gets better soon.

His behaviour hasn't changed at all and he's still eating and drinking and being a general naked pig. But I think to some extent the poor mite has had to learn to cope with foot problems because he didn't have a choice with his previous idiot owners!

In the mean time I have just done the 'Epsom salt soak' home treatment I saw on guinealynx and he sat like a good boy while his paw soaked and while he ate his favourite snack of all time (tomato). Then I rinsed it off and patted it dry and now he's back running around his cage.

Kojack is special because he really is in bad shape genetically. He's a skinny pig so has that added stress of being abnormal and the problems that brings, he is the smallest pig I have ever seen, and even right now when he is fat for his body size he still weighs only 800g (when we got him he was about 600), his feet are terrible, he has never been handled, he's had constant eye problems which we had treated multiple times, and I have no idea how old he is but I think he's an OAP.

Yet despite this he is the most adorable, mischievous little naked pig I've ever seen, constantly running around sniffing the girls butts. I think he is an against the odds piggy.

cute photos, vet bed can be very good for skinny pigs,in areas where they rest,brilliant for sore swollen feet.

He's gorgeous, my late skinnies were on the small side too and so are 2 of my current ones. I agree with getting him to the vet in the morning, to check that it is still Bumblefoot you are dealing with. I have had some success in the past with a cream called Zymox so you could always run that past your vet. It is a steroid cream though and not everyone is happy to use that which I understand.
