Bumblefoot

How wonderful she's doing well! Really glad the meds have started to help her out, sounds like your vet's a keeper :D Gorgeous Crumble, you go girl :yahoo:

Hi all,

So Crumble was doing really well with just metacam and tramadol for about 3 months which was ace!

We headed back to the vets 2 weeks ago as I felt the swelling was increasing again (we'd had 2 check ups in between where the vet and i agreed she was doing well). Unfortunately the vet agreed and put her back on the Baytril and Sulfatrim.

Had another appointment today (saw another vet who's also excellent and with an extra exotics certificate). She was pretty sad about he state of Crumbles feet considering she'd been back on the antibiotics for 2 weeks. We had a good 20 minute chat about options and she tried to squeeze some pus (had to take hard skin flap off) to take another culture (for potential antibiotic changes) but couldn't get any pus, the foot just bled :-( poor sausage.

I sort of feel no pus is perhaps better as we think it's inflammation of the tissue rather than pus filled swelling but even so never nice and my poor Crumbs was such a good girl.

Vet gave me the option for more X-rays to see how we were in relation to last time we xrayed but I don't think I want to put her through another anaesthetic at her age. I feel it's more quality than quantity of life right now.

I don't feel her pain is showing as any worse than it has been, but we've got some Gabapentin (off licence) for her to see if it makes a difference and are going to carry on with antibiotics. I sort of feel 2 weeks isn't enough to crack bumblefoot again anyway, but obviously I'm happy to follow the vets advice who felt that it should have made a difference by now if it was going to.

So plan for now is try this Gabapentin (now on Gabapentin x1 daily, metacam x1 daily, tramadol x2 daily, Sulfatrim x1 daily, Baytril x1 daily). Shes like a walking pharmacy!

As always, she's taking her medicines like a good girl and is so bright and perky :)

Poor Crumble. She is really in the best of hands with you. Sending you good wishes.
