Hello, My boar, Brandy, has been 'limping', not continually though, just sometimes, and was wundering what bumblefoot is? It is not causing Brandy pain and doesnt seem to bother him, He doesnt squele if you touch the foot and isnt really bothered by it, his foot is a darker colour than the others. What is Bumblefoot?
How do they get bumblefoot?

I do hope it's not bumblefoot :o :o poor little Brandy :smitten:

Michellemuffin will be able to help you enormously she has first hand knowledge of bumblefoot and i'm sure she'll help you :) :)
Send her a pm, and if possible pop up a piccie so she and others can look and help you. Wishing you all the best :) :)

Thank you, Lets say it is not bumblefoot, and he had broken his foot, what would a vet do? Brandy's foot doesnt look like that!

Broken foot? Why would you think Brandy has a broken foot? The vets can't really do anything about broken limbs. ?

Oh, i was just wundering about every possobility

Do broken limbs repair them selfs then?

Our little Sully broke his foot, we think it was one time when he leapt out of one of the kids (eldest son, totally accidental) hands back into his cage :( We went straight to the vets and Brendan said he could xray and set it or we could wait a little and see what happened. We waited cause Sully hated anything to do with the vets and would fret terribly if Duke was not with him.... he was fine but i will say his little paw was never quite the same :(

For piece of mind, go to the vets love O0 Even give them a call and have a chat they can advise you, all the best :)

well... we cant see so we cant really help :-\ I would go to the vets just for a check, it wont take long or cost a lot but you will get peice of mind!

yes, ill talk to my parents later and see if they can phone up, ill post you a pigture!

To my knowledge the vets can split/cast it, but all depends on the injury. Then the guinea just needs rest and a little extra calcium wouldn't do any harm. However, very little can be done. If you think you guinea pig has broken it's foot, get it to the vets so they can confirm this (either by feel or an X-ray) and then the vets will pick the best option for treatment. Do you think you guinea has broken it's foot? ?

I dont think his foot is broken as he still uses it, but, on tuesday night he jumped of my lap, we were sitting on the second step of the stairs (dont ask why), it wasnt a big jump/fall and he was fine, the next day or the day after he started to limp and thats it, but he STILL uses it. Will post pics in a minute.

Sorry that the pictures arnt very clear.

I had a pig with similar symptoms diagnosed at the CCT called DJD. Degenerative Joint Disease. If diagnosed a close eye needs to be kept on him. A corse of anti-inflammatories & pain relief made us realise that it was this because it eased the symptoms. If it is this then there's not much you can do other than keep him comfortable.

Get him to the vets so they can diagnois what condition he has/ hasn't got. Keep us updated with his progress. :)

It looked like a normal foot. There wasn't as much flexibilty in his 'wrist' as the other foot/arm/! My vet didn't know DJD existed, it was Vedra who told me about it. Depends how Cavy savvy your vet is...I think that it might be worth calling the CCT. And also a trip to the vet.....

His toe nails have started to curl on the foot he is limping on, could this be the reason?

I think it very well could be! But you dnt know til you get them clipped!

He is clumping his toes together, would they do this if the nails are curling?

I am reading on the internet how to cut them, i now how to, but he has dark nails, do i shine a light under neaith to see the vein?

well you should clip the toenails anyway, theres a guide to doing this written by one of the mods in the health and safetly section. There no point asking us when you can find out yourself, clip the nails and see what happens, if its all okay then you know hwat the problem was ;) O0

Personally what I think you should do is take him to the vets. This way you can find out what is causing him problems, get his nails cut and get the vet to show you. Dark or black nails are quite difficult to cut if you have cut them before, let alone when it is your first time. :)

very true cc i should have said that, because I cut all of ours' nails i assume everyone else can ;D

And at least if the vet does it you will know how and if theres something wrong they should pick up on it!

I did it, and he walks better on it, there is still a bit more to do but i am giving him a rest :)
