Teenage Guinea Pig
Ever since I attached some aluminium insulation foil to the underside of the hutch roof, the piggies have been taking it in turns to sleep on the mezzanine. As you know, their hutch is hardly lacking in insulation (!) but I added yet more, this time to the inside, as I had some radiator foil left over from our house. There is only a 30cm distance from the top of the mezzanine to the ceiling and so it would seem that their body heat radiating back from the foil (if I have understood correctly how it works) is keeping them nice and toasty! They never chose to sleep there before and would either be in the cuddle-cups or in the sleeping area (which extends to the left of them; they are up against the divider). But there is no doubt that quite the best spot to be is now the top bunk with its hay mattress!
confession: I actually bought the radiator foil specifically for their hutch, thinking that I would then use the rest for behind our radiators. The official story, for my husband's benefit, is the other way around 
and we won’t tell your husband that the radiator foil was really brought for the piggies, your secret is safe with us
