so my della has been recovering for bladder stone removal surgery and has been in lots of pain as her bladder is extremely inflamed. we have just seemed to get on top of it after being prescribed
  • buprenorphine
however i know its an opiod and not a long term solution, how long is it safe to use for each time you use it and do you slowly decrease the amount before stopping? ie shes on 1ml x2 a day atm, had 3 days worth, should i reduce down to once a day and see how she is? or do i just stop? if i did stop it and she got worse can i just start it up again? seems to be the only thing that helps her at the minute!

Just giving your post a bump up.
Hopefully someone with more experience will see it.

Sorry to hear Della is still in pain, have you talked to your vet about the buprenophine?

I’ve not used it. It would be best to ask your vet these questions so the answers are specific to her recovery

Really sorry but I’m not sure anyone on here can give you that kind of advice. I’ve only come across it a couple of times as injections after surgery or other vet treatment & it turned my girls into zombies. I was never given any of it as a take home medication.

I have to agree with Vicki - none of us can answer those questions, it had to be a qualified vet to advise on meds

Is there any other Exotic vet you can call and at least have a video chat with or something? For how long is your vet gone?
I'm sorry, I dont have any experience of giving buprenophine to pigs. I would combine my gut feeling and my vets recommendations if I felt it was the wrong medication/dosage. When I took my boy of gabapentin I did it by lower the dose day by day for a couple of days. I have an amazing vet I really trust, and she trusts my knowledge about my pigs. Della and you really needs to find that kind of vet. Lots of hugs for both of you, I hope Della is okay 💜
