Last year, Hazel had her eye removed because of an eye injury and today, Sorrel was burrowing in the hay and I am worried that the hay could have poked her and caused an injury.

Will eye injuries always happen if an eye gets poked or hay gets in the eye?

One of mine thought she was a mole & constantly burrowed, & was always getting bits in her eyes :( Maybe provide more hidies for them & keep the hay in a rack if they aren't too small. I always checked her every day, & occasionally had to carefully remove a piece of hay if it was right in the corner then flushed the eye with cool boiled water, just a few drops.

I don't blame you at all for worrying! i would to!
It's a piggies past time........they adore burrowing under hay.........
everytime i see mine do it i worry too, Onyx ended up with a hay spur in her eye ..... so yeah i know sort of how you feel....HUGS XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

whee have to let them run free and burrow........ but oh so tempting to have the little cotton gloves out to help them eh......
i now just go down and check out everything if i see any burr bits i remove......... but of course it depends on time of year as to what the hay is like!

HUGS xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My previous piggy Branston had quite a few eye injuries in his life(he just seemed prone to them) if you spot it and treat it early they normally heal fairly quickly. Junior my other boar recently had an eye injury, drops cleared it up within a few days :) I know how worrying it can be, Branston worried me alot! :)
