Hi All,
I have just found a cyst on my older girl, the pus was coming out so I have gently squeezed as much of it out as I can, and bathed the wound with diluted F10. She was ever so good about it all. I will go on bathing in the antiseptic solution but how often should I do this? The cyst is on her back, above her bottom, so it's unlikely she will get poo or wee on it.
She seems quite happy in herself, eating & acting quite normally but I am guessing that the vet will say she is a bit too old for a removal of the cyst. I don't mind emptying it out myself every so often if it refills.

Sorry to hear this.
A vet visit would be in order.
I have no experience of this so can’t offer advice.
Hope everything works out well

Hello. I would let the vet take a look just to make sure it’s a cyst and not an abscess. Good luck. ❤️

I am very sorry about the burst cyst.

My two oldest piggies having an operation aged 6 and just before her 7th birthday were both for burst cysts, one infected one right next to the genitalia and one unusual one very large one with fleshy/bleeding inclusions and a suspicion of cancer (thankfully didn't come off) - we'd all hoped that the latter would stay put and not start another mad growth spurt instead...

It depends where your cyst is located, what size it is and whether it is impacting on her daily life/mobility and what your vet says.

Vet verdict: a cyst, and not a huge one either. It's looking a lot better today already (no redness or swelling) but I am to continue to bathe it once a day and if there are any concerns at all I can go back. She is still eating well and isn't showing any signs of discomfort.

That is great!

My Hafren's burst and bleeding cyst was 5 cm/2 inches when I had her operated shortly before her 7th birthday. She lived for a few months after until old age caught up with her.

My word, 5 cm cyst sounds ghastly. Pippa's is tiny in comparison.

In this case, be of good cheer. It should take weeks or - if you are lucky - months for the cysts to refill.

This was Hafren after her op.

I hope that this makes you feel better.

As long as the cyst doesn't go runaway or is in a bad place, it is just going to be an inconvenience.

Thank you, yes it does make me feel less worried about this
Pippa's is in much the same place only a little higher up.
