Hey everyone,

Recently my little Peruvian boar piggy (Monty) had decided he is completely against having his hair cuts no matter how hard I try to persuade him he almost defiantly does!

It's not terribly long but long enough to be getting dirty from dragging on the cage floor.

I feel as though I'm slightly stressing him out every time I go to cut his hair, as he's running away and flicking me with his back legs whenever I find a section to cut. He's especially against anywhere near his lower back/backend being touched completely!

Does anyone have any tips or advice on how Montys hairdresser experiences can be more enjoyable for him?

Thank you all in advance! X

P.S. Just want to say, even though he's being difficult, he is getting his trims so he's not got any matts or dirty bits of hair on him...he's not being left in an unhygienic way

P.P.S. Here's some piggy pictures of the difficult Monty and the mega chilled out older brother Jasper

Beautiful piggies. When I had a long haired pig trimming was a two woman job with lots of food bribes. Like Monty Artie always had better things to do than sit still to be fussed at :).

Oh Monty! You are gorgeous and I can see why you don't want your excellent 'do chopped

I've found that he's slightly happier with me cutting his hair whilst he's on my shoulder, but clearly I can't see what I'm doing whilst he's there! I might have to take your advice and turn it into a two person job

Two person job for sure hair trimming and the person holding give them a lettuce leaf to keep them (the piggy not the other hooman) distracted :))

I feel your pain ! I also have a Peruvian and he's a nightmare to cut , bathe and clip! So much so that when I left him ( for a spilt second ) free on my work surface to turn around to grab another brush he pelted into the sink with washing up in ! , normally it is a two person job !

Would it help to sit in front of a large mirror?

Hello

One of my boys - Churchill is a long hair piggy. As it happens I have just cut his hair today. He was very much like Monti and was really freaking out for the first year and a half or so. What I found is that with such fidgety and stressed out piggy the only option is to do it in very small bits. Every lap time I'd give him some treats or stroke him till he chilles and then take a cheeky chunk off... it would take me few days before I had him sorted completely but I felt that it was not causing him so much distress. With time he got used to it bit more and more. I must say today was the very first time I managed to do it all in one go... please stay patient and I'm sure Monti will start 'cooperatiing'

That's actually a really good idea! I never even though to do that! Defiantly have to give it a go Thank you and thank you to everyone else as well, you all been so helpful and hopeful Monty will enjoy his hair cuts much more now...or at the very least sit still for a little longer

Hee hee, I thought you meant so that he could admire his gorgeousness while he had his haircut!
