how do you handle a piggie that bites? I mean it isn't too terribly bad but she nips everytime I pick her up. I mean, she has never bitten hard enough to draw blood is what i mean. she nips at my shirt when I hold her against me. anyone else have this issue?

A couple of my rescues that haven't been handled have been like this. It might help to wrap her in a towel or blanket, especially if she's wriggly, and talk to her in a soothing voice. Bribery in the form of food is always helpful too. Other than that, I'm assuming she'll grow out of it as she gets used to being handled. How old is Buttercup?

my baby Max does this, scruffy did too when he was young, I think it can be an age thing. Max mainly does it when he knows hes near his cage and wants to go in or can smell Scruffy about so wants to get him.

They should eventually grow out of it.

Buttercup is about 1 year and 4 months approx. Actually I don;t think she did this when I first got her, it seems to be something she just started doing, making me wonder if it's me?:...

it could be mites, lice or fleas?

hmmm.. I don;t think so, I don;t know.... she only does that when I pick her up. maybe she is just one of those pigs that dislikes being held.,

I have one that nips when I pick him up. I have come to the conclusion he just doesn't like being handled so I only handle him when I have to ie: to carry him to his run. I pick a couple of long strands of grass that he can chomp on whilst being carried then he can't bite my fingers!

It is usually a thing piggies do when they are young.
Junior loves biting zips on my tops. Sometimes they can nip when they smell veg, grass or something tasty on your hands.

Junior, however, does it because he is an over-active little tinker! rolleyes

Harry bit me last night quite a lot. He's done it once before but only little nips, but last night I took him out of his run and held him for a little bit. He started getting a little bit of a handful and it also seemed like he could smell something. He always tends to move himself when we hold him, so he sits along your arm instead of against your chest. And then the next thing I know he's bit me. Then does it another 3 times and drew blood on one. Not sure why he did it but it's bothered me.

I'm holding them correctly (except Harry who just seems to like moving into that other position), maybe I'm squeezing them a bit hard when I pick them up? I don't think I am. The only other thing I can think is they still remember the bath we gave them the other week and have fallen out with us. Harry certainly seems to run away a lot more than he used to when we try to pick them up and Dude does as well. Although he's fine once you have him. So is Harry normally. Bugging me a bit I have to admit.

Dumpling will nip at my shirt when A) He feels a little insecure because I'm walking to another room or B) He wants to get down to pee or C) He just needs to chew on something.

Sometimes the nip goes through to my skin, but it isn't his intention.

I reccomend offering a chew stick when the nipping starts, I really think it is more of an impulse to chew than anything about us.

Also, he nips when I scritch him the wrong way. I know he LOVES being held and petted and scratched... but since he can't tell me when I've done it too hard or too soft or in the wrong place, he will give me a gentle nip just as a message.
