Hi. My vet has prescribed itrafungol for my guinea pig to clear up the horrible ringworm she has. The vet was going to charge me £85....
After querying this he said I could get on internet and gave me a prescription. It is £33 on internet pharmacy sites!
Amazing how vets can get away with this mark up.
There seem to be lots of sites.
Anyone can recommend a good one?

Thanks again Helen, my guru, will go with them!
The end is in sight! Poor Snowy, they're all really scabby and now other ear got it on too. Desperate to treat. Another bath today with the shampoo (oh joy!).
Can't believe £85!

Think it is at least 70 at my vets. Did the vet say to treat both pigs or just the one?

Just the one. Once a day for 14 days. I have read it should be one week on one off though. Will have loads left so if I need to treat the other will be enough. Going to change vet also as mine have been awful this week. I had to call then 4 times yesterday for results of swabs. Then they huffed when I asked for prescription straight away not monday. Poor snowy needs treatment asap. Really bad customer service. X

It should ideally yes but not all vets do that. One of the vets at Vets and Pets in Broxbourne actually spoke to the company that make it who confirmed that the regime for treating a pig should be the same as for a cat which is dosing twice a day for 7 days, then 7 days off, 7 days on again, 7 off and a final 7 days on. So you are basically treating for 6 weeks as it keeps working on the weeks off. That is the regime I followed and my local vets also went with when I pointed it out.

That does sound bad service.

I recently got itrafungol from 365vets - around £37. I used a regime of 10 days on 3 days off then 10 days on, which worked absolutely fine. I think it's important to have a break somewhere in the treatment.

Thank you have ordered! Good job as suzy the other guinea has now got it. Good job its a big bottle! Will try having a break.

I thought she would end up getting it too, is often the way. Hope the Itrafungol helps when it arrives.

It was a matter of time! Kept thinking we'd been lucky! Also discovered today my husband is a pro at bathing guineas which made today's shampooing easier!

That's good, my OH is better than me at it too. Now they both have it it would be a good idea to also introduce Imaverol.

A good tip when having a large bottle like this is to put approx. a week's supply into a smaller bottle & drawing from this. The big bottle has less change of getting contaminated with syringes going into it twice a day.
