Does anyone have experience buying hay bales or large amounts of hay locally, instead of shipping or buying bagged hay from a petstore? I have a feed store nearby I could get hay from but I'm not sure on storing large amounts. I think it'd be more cost effective than buying hay from a petstore. I get a 15% discount at my store but for 4 pigs it still adds up.

I used to buy a bale from my local farm shop (they stopped trading though).
You can buy a hay bale storage bag from Amazon.

:agr: I’ve bought a bale from a farm about twice and stored it in boxes/bags from hay bought online. Someone else on here said they store it in a bin.

When I used to buy a bale I stored it in a shed in an old duvet cover. Duvet covers are good for transporting it in the car too.

My car was a mess the first time I bought it! Second time was better because I put a bin bag in the bottom and covered it with another.

I have a farm supply store near me, so I always get hay from there for my guinea pigs it’s 50Ibs for $20, and lasts me about 4 months! I just store it in a huge plastic storage container.

I buy bales of hay from a local farm for my eight pigs - it’s really good quality and they love it. I store it in the garage.
