As the title suggests they have had dramatics again. Ron and Hagrid got a new cage earlier this week and made their way up to my daughter's bedroom and whilst they were waiting for the switch I put them in a box with some goodies. This is the same box I use to take buzz to the vet (he's still having the abscess flushed daily) and I use when the kids walk the guineas from one room to another (I don't let them walk them without the box incase one wiggles and gets dropped).

Well the box obviously smelled of Ron... And woody has then started a fight with buzz again when they went in it to move into the living room for playtime. Buzz got a bust lip. I cleaned it up with hibiscrub and the vet checked it the following day. It wasn't a bad one, but there was blood. Now buzz and woody seem to get on fine... But woody seems to kick off at the scent of another boar and buzz takes the brunt. Is this normal? We are trying to find a solution giving them both a lot of lovely space (stacking c&c possibly, or an outhouse where they swap to run around the floor) and at the moment it doesn't seem like that would be a possibility because they would be able to smell each other? Is that normal? Or is woody still hormonal? He is about 15 months old we think. Just to clarify I wouldn't let them all in shared areas together, just take it in turns.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Woody is just on the verge of adulthood and only about to come out of the teenage months. Some boys do it a bit earlier, Woody is obviously a bit later.
Young adults can still suffer from the occasional testosterone spike out of the blue. You are not a teenager one day and an adult the other. Not all boars are kicking off on other boars, but some are much more sensitive. I see the same in my adult neutered boars where some react much more to what other boys in neighbouring cages are doing than others.
Woody is obviously one of the very sensitive ones. Please make sure that Woody cannot get at Buzz.

I think it's normal, if they aren't bonded at least, should probably try to keep them as distant as you can :)

Thank you, buzz and woody are bonded. They live together. The only time there has been a fight is if I've put them in the garden run or box directly after Ron and hagrid have been in it. Within minutes it's like a fight out of a cartoon and buzz ends up with a cut. He's had a cut ear before and a cut lip. Woody pines when buzz goes to the vet (we used to take both of them but woody wees all over the pair of them and I end up having to have buzz bathed at the vet before he can have his wound sorted 🤦‍♀️). If woody and buzz are kept just as those two and nowhere near anything the other two touch they are happy. Put them near any scent of Ron and hagrid and woody will fight buzz. Does it mean they will have to have two runs etc in the garden? He's a minx that pig x

We have buzz and woody downstairs and ron and hagrid upstairs. We don't seem to get any drama from Ron and hagrid, they are champion popcorners over the top of the other pig (we call it the cows jumping over the moon lol), but they're very young. Woody has always been an emotional pig, I swear this is the closest you'll get to an animal being able to talk to you, you can see very clearly what he does or doesn't like or want.

I have two sets of boars, Ron and hagrid live upstairs in my daughters room and buzz and woody live downstairs in our house. If I put Ron and hagrid in a neutral area (their carry box or run) then use it for buzz and woody, woody starts fighting buzz. Buzz has had two wounds now, he also has an unrelated abscess that's been being treated by the vet daily for nearly three weeks now. I want to get a big stacking c and c cage and a run they can take in turns to use or get like an outhouse where they can take kt in turns on the floor area, but I was basically wondering if woody will grow out of this fighting when he smells other pigs so this can be one a reality? Like do boars often not even like the scent of other boars? He will be a nightmare to rebond, I cant risk his bond with buzz by doing things like sharing runs which causes issues where I'm still pretty inexperienced. Here they are 😍

Woody on the left and buzz on the right ❤️

I know it might cost some money but each pair of boars should be completely separate from the other pair of boars. One pair should have their own run, playpen, carry box, and stuff. I guess that could be one thing you can do if you don't want to risk having to separate Buzz and Woody.
