Buzz has a lump!

Thank you everyone! The wound is right on the bottom of the lump, literally dragging on the floor 🤦‍♀️ I'm going to order another cage I think to keep him in close range. I don't want to put him back in the spare room right now especially as I am keeping Ron and his new bud in the front room as the baby is so young and new bond etc. It's all drama at the moment in piggy quarters here haha x

Buzz has the right hump, I've syringed 10ml of critical care (well I tried 15ml but he was constantly spitting it out 🙄) as he's not eaten since we've been back that I've seen and he is very subdued.

Just to confirm he's got the fibreplex 1ml 3x a day, 0.4ml of baytril twice a day, 0.8ml of metacam once a day and then I'm to flush the wound once a day with 20ml of warmed hartmans solution and put the manuka honey in once cleaned up. I'm dreading flushing it 😖

Can these things refill and quickly? I've just done the fluid flush and the fluids gone in but I csnt get much back out! It feels hard and solid again! I'm having to syringe him he's not really happy at all x

Oh no... I have no idea if they can refill so quickly... I hope someone with a bit more knowledge can help...

Has the abscess been marsupialised (stitched open)? It will continue to form pus, which is why you need to flush it at least twice a day. Ideally you want an antibiotic, such as Zithromax, for dealing with abscesses. Baytril really isn't strong enough.

Thank you @artcasper and @furryfriends (TEAS) . Should I call back the vet already and ask for another drug? It's not stitched open just cut and she said the flushing keeps it open? She said do 10ml of the solution twice a day or 20ml once and then squirt the honey in? He's running about now, I am going to syringe again before bed til I see him eating properly though. He was totally fine til he had it lanced, now he is genuinely pulling this face 😳 x

Buzz has been back to the vet today because I wasn't happy that I was flushing it properly. It just seemed to squirt straight back out. The nurse also struggled, finally managed to do it but then he started pouring with blood 😭 she rushed him into the vet but it was just a pocket of build up in the abscess which has now flushed out. The vet was happy with the abscess. He's now covered in blood though 😭 he's going back tomorrow for another flush. X

Sometimes it can be a bit tricky. Great to hear Buzz is OK.xx

I think what's happened is where the lump was so big, as its been sliced like the deeper layer of skin is no longer aligned with the outer layer, so to wiggle the skin to try and find the holes and line them up is hard work, even the nurse struggled and then the fluid just runs back out like it's hitting a brick wall. So they're going to do it now. I've stopped syringing food because he doesn't seem to need it. He's eating (obviously I'm stalking him), running around like usual and maintaining his weight x

That's totally normal, I'm paranoid and stalk my piggies if they are under the weather for any reason.xx

Buzz had another flush today by the vet this time and she reopened the wound properly again. All seems to be going well, his weight has come back up and he is running around etc. I've got to attempt the flushing over the weekend, if I cant do it successfully then the vet will have him back this weekend, if not we are booked in for Monday night for a review. The vet thinks there will always be a bit of scar tissue there but she's happy this is going to be all good and well in the next few weeks 😁

Hi guys, just updating this thread to see it out so anyone looking for similar experience can see the outcome. Buzz had the vet on Monday and the vet found a bit more junk in the abscess so we are still flushing and antibiotics, painkillers etc. He went back today and the abscess is now tiny, like a small marble with no junk. So we are carrying on til Monday, if all clear Monday we can let it heal up. So it will have been two weeks of flushing, antibiotics, probiotic and painkillers. But he's remained champion throughout, no side effects from the baytril etc 😁 113301

So we've been to the vets and there was still more in it 😭 not much but still more pus. He has the vet again Wednesday morning and I've been told not to touch it in the meantime. Is there anything I can do now to stop surgery? I'm desperate to stop surgery! Would a change in antibiotics help at this point? Would having the vet flush it daily again improve it? Please help! Thank you x
