I found her this morning in big sleep with Smartie my other guniea pig next to her, so gutted :'( :'( :'( she was 7. Good bye Rolo

Yeah a good age, she had a good life :) I worried about her hutch mate Smartie will take it she is very quiet today and hasnt left the spot she was when I found Rolo which was sitting next to Rolo.

What do people tend to do berry them or take them to vets ? I want to berry but we have lots of foxes around so bit worried.

In my opintion, if you are at risk of having her dug up, then I would take her to the vets. That way you haven't always got that worry on your mind. :)

So soryr for your loss. x

When we lost Cuzzy we took him to the vets for cremation you can either get an animal cremeted on his/her own and pay to have the ashes back or get cremeted with a numbr of animals and not recieve anything this is what I did as we have wild cats but now my garden is cat proofed when it happens again which sadly it will I will bury my pets as I have children and I felt my eldest needed something to say goodbye too.

Just do whatever is best for you.

am so sorry for your lost of rolo :'( :'( :'( RIP sweet darling run free and popcorn amongst the angels and know you were loved and you loved. 0:) 0:) 0:) big hugs to you and smartie :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: as to burying a piggy we put then in a sealed container and put tin onto of them then put dirt on top and then another bit of tin on top with bricks on top of that. if you have foxes and cats about an inch down put chicken wire into the hole and cover. O0 some people here in oz to protect their choock from foxes they dig a trench about 2-6 inches deep and put broken glass into the trench so when the fox or cat digs they will cut themselves, i know it is terrible but it does work. O0 RIP darling rolo so much loved and NEVER forgotten sweetheart 0:) 0:) 0:) goo were a great piggy parent and smartie was a good piggy friend to rolo :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

That's horrible. I wouldn't suggest anyone do that. I know foxes and cats can be a nuisance but there must be other ways of stopping them without resorting to being what I consider cruel. The cuts could get infected and the poor animal would suffer terribly. With regards to burying an animal we always bury them in the garden and we have cats and foxes around. Just make sure the hole is deep and I always put a box (a plastic toy box or sainsburys type carry box) upside down over the hole until the earth has settled. You could also put bricks or something heavy on it so it can't be moved.

Oh no so sorry to hear about little Rolo :'( :'( :'( :'(
RIP Rolo run free at the bridge you're such a wonderful piggie who's got experience i'm sure you'll be able to help the little ones at the bridge and i'm sure all the other lovely piggies will show you where the lovely green grass grows for you to munch on :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))) and piggie kisses from us both for you and Smartie, please give her lots of tender kisses and loves as she'll be really missing her cage mate and best friend :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks for everyones kind words :smitten: Smartie is very sad :embarassed: it breaks my heart. I knew it was coming but it doesn't make it any easier, even more so as my partner of 10 years left me 4 weeks ago :embarassed:, Rolo especially had been a great comfort to me during this time, we had lots of cuddles :) Now its just me and Smartie so we got to look after one another now.

Went to sit with Smartie, she has hidden herself under some hay, she has gone very quiet just sitting there, but I did hear her making a funny sound, I thought she might be ill as well but then found this on the web, it mentions a chirping sound when they are missing there friend,

"If one of a bonded pair dies, the other guinea pig may be just fine or may go into what appears to be a depression. They may become sluggish and not eat as much and not appear normal.

Also, that rare chirping sound that a guinea pig makes which not too many people have heard, seems to be noticed more in this situation, where the guinea pig appears to be missing it's mate or pal. Sometimes this happens late in the night."

Oh, that's so upsetting, poor Smartie. Perhaps when you are ready you can find her a cagemate. I'm so sorry you lost Rolo, RIP little lady

Buried Rolo in the garden yesterday in the end no chance of her of being disturbed, I put a nice rose bush on the spot :-* really missing her. Smartie her companion has not squeaked since Friday at all, just laying around looking totally fed up, I'm giving her lots of love though :smitten:
