Just back from vets. Sasha's gone. 7 short months of life, couldn't let her struggle any more. Bye bye my wonderful little angel. Once I heard that you would have to live the rest of any earth life in isolation and having to have nebuliser's possibly daily, I knew you deserved so much more than that and it was time to cuddle goodbye. Miss you loads.
Can't say any more.
Please DONT BUY FROM PETS AT HOME.
Two out of four babies bought the same day in March, now dead, having never recovered from being ill at purchase.
Sasha and her sister Grace were sold as 8wk olds. But I would say king against their size even against the others in the shop with them, that they were about 3/4qks only.
Sasha has paid with her life for this. Please everyone don't go through the same as me.
 
Oh no not another pets at home deeply loved piggy crossing the rainbow bridge, what on earth is pets at home playing at I'm reading most days lately about ill or piggies that have died young after being brought from there.
I am so sorry you have had to go through this heartbreak again :( RIP lovely Sasha x
 
I am so sorry for your loss. Such a real shame, she may only have had a short time but she knew love from you. I am really sorry you have lost another. Massive hugs x

So sorry for your loss. I lost Toffee, he was from a rescue! A rescue that was over crowded and wasn't really a rescue.

All we can do is make more and more people aware of these places. Don't buy from pet shops, research your rescues, make sure you can look around. I was led on by a fancy web site and the rescue being on local TV.

Years ago, I had a rabbit from pets at home, it lasted a week. Years later I got a rabbit from the local livestock market for £1, it lived 8 years!

I don't know how PAH are allowed to continue to sell animals with so many occupancies like this. I've written to them myself to express my concerns, obviously never got a response. At least you gave her lots of love & a good but short life. Popcorn free little Sasha xx
 
I am so sorry for you loss - I know it is very hard when you lose a much loved guinea pig. You have to think of quality of life and I am sure you made the right decision, no matter how hard it was.

Thank you everyone for your kindness. I only went in to PAH to look because my little clan of 8 had dwindled down to 4 through mainly old age and a cancer. I got the first 'family' piggies from them and they got to 3,5, and just short of 6years old. The local PaH store had a very knowledgeable woman in charge of the livestock then. She always referred to them as her little ones and there was never a small, ill looking or singular pig in there. When I once pointed out that one had an eye injury, she immediately left the tills and attended to it. She was a genuine pet lover and cared.
The next 4 we got from our nearest rescue as we were more aware then of the mounting problem of beautiful pets needing caring and understanding homes. But unfortunately when I tried to contact them to help home some more this time, they had closed. Which didn't even leave one in driving distance that I knew of.
So the new 4 came from the pet store purely because they had just finished their quarantine of 5 days supposedly! They were so beautiful, I couldn't walk away. I know that if I'd gone back to tell them of all the earmites and fungal coat conditions that developed within the first 4 days they would have replaced them or offered treatment by their vets. ? Like you'd trust someone working there! And I dread to think what would have happened if I'd retuned them, like a damaged garment. Yeah, I'll just pick out something else I fancy instead.That's not what pet owning is about to me. Once mine, they are my responsibility for life.
So thank you everyone. I just wanted to explain that I know not to go to such pet stores. I still have to get my food there, so I still look. And if they were to have any females for adoption I may be tempted to help them out, for their sakes, not the company's. But I have now found two near ish rescues, Millhaven in Keighley and Barc In Barnsley. When I'm ready, I'll go see them. If any forum members know any others nearer or just so I can visit, please let me know. Good home, plenty of love n veggies and ever increasing knowledge of care waiting.
 
I am ever so sorry for your loss. Sadly, 5 days if isolation is nowhere near enough and sadly, some branches are simply not up to snuff.

I can recommend both rescues warmly, having rehomed from them myself. The third rescue in your area that I can equally recommend is Cavy Corner sanctuary in Doncaster.

Hi, I really hope you don't think I was funny in my comment that you quoted :soz: As I wasn't , I was just shocked to hear that yet another pets at home guinea pig had passed, I have read lots of thread or posts lately about guineas not being well and even drying :hmm:.

No no not at all. Just wanted to point it out to others who might pick up the thread to warn them away from them. I always feel sorry for the animals for sale In such places. What is going to happen to them if we don't get them. They have had no say in the matter about where they end up being sold do they? Poor mites. I would still be a sucker for one now, at least I know what I could be facing and be ready to tackle it, even if my Bank balance isn't!
For the record. Four pigs bought at pets at home. £67 Treatment and equipment bought (nebuliser's) and farewell to Sasha, in excess of £600..
Not gloating.. but buyer beware. What you may be getting in to should you buy from a shop.
