Hi guys, I'm buying some C&C grids for Christmas so I can build 'Piggie Towers'.
I'm going to have three separate cages, each 6x2 with a 2x2 loft on the bottom level only. I just have a few questions that I'd like reassurance on please.

Will I need any kind of support beams or will I be ok with lots and lots of cabel ties?
Will an 8x4 sheet of correx be suitable, that wouldn't give me much of border on the sides however it would be enough to keep things from spilling out.
I'm planning on using fleece for the levels, have you got any tips or suggestions as to cleaning ect.

Thank you (-:

Oooo I will be watching this thread - as I am also planning to purchase 6x2 c&c grids (without loft though)

Measure twice or even three times before you score and cut the Correx is my biggest tip! I didn't the first time I made a C&C lol. All I can say is it was a good job I had two pieces of Correx! rolleyes

An 8x4 sheet should be fine for a 6x2 cage. I had a 5x2 cage and the Correx was really high lol. Probably too high really but I couldn't be bothered to cut it properly at the time!

Oh and be careful about what colour Correx you choose! I had blue and regretted it very quickly! White every time for me now lol. Much easier on the eye! I haven't had a C&C cage for a while but I think an 'L-shaped' C&C will fit downstairs so am planning one for my newly extended piggy family. So I'll be building one soon too! Hope it goes well! :))

I'm definitely buying white to match my grids, everything has to be coordinated lol

Thanks for your help x

Good good! :))

Oh and the same rule for measuring carefully before cutting applies to fleece too lol. And remember as well that not all fleece is equal. Cheap fleece will be thinner and may not 'wick' as effectively as good quality fleece. I got some lovely thick fleece from ebay recently that was a little bit more expensive but is much thicker than the basic fleece blankets I buy for my rats hammocks. (They destroy a hammock a week and so only get cheap fleece! :))

I got some good quality fleece for my first piggies' C&C and it lasted 3 years looking as good as new.

ETA: I used these (( Machine Washable Incontinence pads under my fleece )) - much cheaper than many places and excellent quality xx

Ahh so much to think of! I may Lino first and add fleece later. I wish I were made of money, then they could have everything ):

We've just bought some grids to make C&C cage - should be coming today or tomorrow with the Correx just before Xmas. I cannot WAIT to make their home - they will have so much more space to run around :D It's their little (big) present. I'll post pictures when we've done it :)

You may find you need some support for your loft area, although cable ties are helpful! I found that by the time 4 pigs had been crashing about up there for a few days it got a bit saggy! I use a couple of sticks of dowel (kind of like pillars) which are easy to take out one at a time for fleece changing etc.

I've changed my plans now and instead of having a loft on the bottom level I'm just going to create 4 cages, each 6x2 as I'm expecting two new pigs after Christmas! I'm very excited to start making my boys new homes :))
