Hi guys,

so basically I have been wanting to get aC&C cage for my two guinea pigs for such a long time. However, I have seen mixed reviews on the size we would need/whether a loft space is a good idea/where to buy one as prices differ so much!

so basically I am just looking for some advice on C&C housing for my piggies. I understand that I will have to spend money! There is no doubt about that but some of the prices for the cages do seem excessive!
If anyone has any ideas/advice/recommendations please do let me know!

thank you!

Are you piggies boys or girls?
Two girls need a 2 grid by 4 grid cage.
Two boys need a 2 grid by 5 grid cage.

A loft is fine to have but it doesn’t count towards the cage size as piggies are ground roaming and not natural climbers.

You can get kits which provide everything you need - grids, connectors, correx, cable ties, safe ramps, or you can do it more DIY.

If you do it yourself, you will need to make sure the grids you get have 9 holes, not 8 holes.
You don’t need to use correx as a base, a piece of plastic sheeting works just as well (Provided you don’t use disposable bedding)

I bought my grids on Amazon from grendle. They also have their own website. Correx I bought on eBay. If you’re to sit it directly on the floor then you could just use something waterproof and put bedding of choice on top.

Whether you have a loft is up to you, as long as you know it doesn’t add space. Piggies are ground roaming so their minimum space requirements must be met on one level. Also make sure you get the 9 hole grids. And use cable ties as well as the connectors.

I also don’t know if I feel comfortable making my own cage? Is it easy enough! ?

Yes, it’s easy. The grids simply join together with the connectors and then you can reinforce it with cable ties.
It is expensive, but the kits mean you can’t get it wrong as everything you need is provided.

There’s also a video on YouTube of people putting them together. Just make sure you have plenty of time. I underestimated how long it would take me to build a two storey 2x5 🤦🏾‍♀️

I bought the sheet of correx and grids from a site and assembled it all myself. It wasn’t hard just need a lot of patience and a good amount of time :)

It‘s ridiculous, isn’t it? We thought extending Pewter‘s & Benito‘s cage would take a good hour. Took us 3 instead 🤦‍♀️ And let‘s not talk about the half day it took to build the initial C&C. Totally worth every minute, though!

I thought it would be a 1 hour job if that...built it over two days. And that’s not including cutting the correx! The logistics of the cage itself were something entirely different! That was before I got the idea to use two lengths of wood to reinforce the top cage. Cleaning and getting the girls out was a struggle in the beginning. Definitely worth it though.

Ok thank you. Where did you get your kit? Would you be able to send me a link please?
